Shortly after Toronto Maple Leafs forward Phil Kessel was ripped by former coach Ron Wilson for his inconsistency during a TSN radio interview Tuesday afternoon, the embattled winger lashed out at a local reporter for asking him to answer to the claims.
“People are saying you’re difficult to coach,” the reporter said in a short exchange captured on video.
The question sent Kessel, the Leafs leading scorer this season, over the edge.
“That’s a weird question for you to ask,” an irked Kessel said. “You think it’s my fault? Is that what you’re saying? Is that what you’re saying?
“I don’t think so. I play.”
The exchange came as the dust began to settle following coach Randy Carlyle’s dismissal by the Leafs late Monday night.
Tempers began to flare shortly after the move was announced by general manager Dave Nonis.
“This guy is such an idiot,” Kessel said as he stopped the interview. “He has always been like this.
“I don’t see any of these other (reporters) disrespecting the players like you are.”
