I'm surprised and disappointed at the amount of false information people pass on without bothering to check the facts. It only takes seconds to pass on bogus emails to everyone on your mailing list. Why do people pass this stuff on? Do you take the time to verify the facts? Or do you pass these things on blindly? Inquiring minds want to know.

I usually send them back saying you really should check your facts before send shit like this on...

Snopes is an excellent site for exposing such things...

And whenever an e-mail says "send this to everyone you know", that pretty much guarantees:

CG, how does snopes work?. Just entered the site and a bit confusing.

Pretty much the same as Google. Its really very simple...

Take an e-mail you have rec'd that you suspect might be BS, and extract a key sentence, paste it into the search engine on Snopes, and it will search its database for you and let you know its authenticity.

It works for urban legends of all kinds as well....

e.g. A few weeks ago the "Good Luck Mr. Gorsky" legend came up... (With respect to Neil Armstrong), so I punched that up and found out the rest of the story.

Great. Thanks. I hate those chain emails. I don't know why people keep sending those.

Chain e-mails get people deleted from me really fast. Of course I let them know those messages are not appreciated. If that does not work I send them about 300 messages all saying "Stop sending me shit", if that doesn't work, they get their asses deleted.
