Two people were wounded late Sunday when gunfire erupted at a local movie theater, sending panicked moviegoers rushing to exits and ducking for cover, police and witnesses said.
A lone suspect was in custody after being wounded by an unidentified law enforcement officer, a Bexar County Sheriff's Office spokesman said.
Conditions of the two people wounded were not immediately released, nor was it disclosed where they were when they were wounded, or the type of gun that was used.

Witnesses said numerous shots were fired inside and outside the Santikos Mayan Palace 14 theater complex on Southwest Military Drive around 9:25 p.m., setting off the scramble to safety before police and EMS arrived. The complex was evacuated and sealed off for several hours.

Detective Louis Antu, spokesman for the Bexar County Sherriff's Office, said the shooting began at a nearby China Garden and “carried on into the theater.”

At one point, the suspect fired at a San Antonio Police Department patrol car, Antu said.

“He was shooting at a marked unit,” Antu said. “He knows he was shooting at an officer so that's (an) automatic (charge of) attempted capital murder.”
After the suspect reached the theater, an off duty Bexar County Sheriff officer who was working at the theater shot at him and possibly struck him, Antu said.

“She took all appropriate action to keep everyone safe in the movie theater,” Antu said.

Tara Grace, who was getting a drink from the concession stand when the shooting began, ran into the bathroom and locked herself in a stall with five other patrons to avoid the mayhem.
“We thought we were going to die,” she said.

A person at the scene, an employee from a different location of the restaurant, said the gunman initially may have targeted a coworker before making his way to the theater, though Antu could not confirm a motive immediately.

The shooting immediately sparked fears of a mass slaying like the one in July that killed 12 people and injured 58 at a movie theater in Aurora, Colo.

Cassandra Castillo, waited anxiously outside the theater for her son, a projectionist at the theater.

“It brings back memories of the other theater shooting, and the elementary school shooting,” she said. “You only think the worst.”

Very sad.

More sadness.

Updated at 5:50 p.m. ET: A 7-year-old boy was fatally shot by his father outside a gun shop in western Pennsylvania, according to a Pennsylvania State Police report.

Joseph Loughrey, the father, had gone in to in East Lackawannock Township some time before 11 a.m. to try to sell a 9 mm Taurus handgun and a scope rifle, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Store managers weren't interested.

Loughrey, 44, and his son, Craig Loughrey, returned to the truck, where Loughrey secured his son in a booster seat on the passenger side. He then placed the long gun in the bed of the truck.

As he got into the truck, he reached to place the handgun into a glove box storage unit, police told the Tribune-Review. That's when it fired.

Authorities were called at 10:53 a.m. local time and found the boy lying next to the truck after a failed attempt at resuscitation. They stayed on scene until after 1 p.m., dispatchers said.
"All evidence at this point would suggest that this incident is accidental," the Pennsylvania State Police report stated.

According to the Tribune-Review, Loughrey didn't realize that a round remained in the gun's chamber.
“This happens all too often where people think the gun was empty,” State Police Lt. Eric Hermick.

Twig’s Reloading Den is an outdoor supply store about 70 miles from Pittsburgh.

Imy Howard, owner of Howard & Son Meat Packing store next door, told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazettethat her son heard a shot this morning. She said that Twig’s Reloading Den hosted target shooting in the back parking lot last week but not this week.

A Twig’s employee told the Post-Gazette that the incident was “just an unfortunate accident.”

https://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/20...father-outside-gun-store-in-pennsylvania?lite

Unfortunate, definitely. Accident, well yes in the sense that it was not deliberate. but when you put those two words together it seems to imply something that just happened and could not have been prevented, which was certainly not the case here.

If you own a weapon, especially around children, you have a responsibility to know if there is a round in the chamber. I imagine the dad will remember that from now on.

If you own a firearm you have a responsibility to make sure your children understand them. Any responsible firearms owner knows better than to have a loaded gun . However many accidents have happened because they forgot to make sure there was no round chambered in it.

I've also heard of many instances of where a citizen with a CCW permit has actually stopped a robbery or a potential mass murdered because they were armed. No matter what you say or do, you will not be able to remove the guns from the Americans. Theres enough firearms out there that are owned privately to give a firearm to nearly 90% of the population. The screaming from the anti gun nuts the last few days as well as the 24/7 media coverage is beyond sickening. Screaming for gun bans loud and clear is not going to stop the problem. Norway has some of the strictest gun laws on the planet yet a nut got ahold of one and went on a rampage. Jamaica which has an outright ban on firearms has a death rate thats 48.8 per 100,000 from firearms alone. America is about 8.9 per 100,000 and Canada about half that.

If you want to deal with the problem of these shootings, you need to come up with a solution that works and the legitimate firearm owners have said this for many years. Make using a firearm in the commission of a crime extremely serious, not a slap on the wrist like whats been happening lately. There should be a zero tolerance on any weapon being used in a crime. The other part is education. Here in Canada in order to get a firearms license you have to pass a course and police checks. Certain firearms are unrestricted, restricted, and prohibited and those outside of the prohibited require special clearance here. Not so much in the states.

Connecticut has some of the strictest gun laws in the states yet it did nothing to stop it. We all know that just outlawing something wont prevent it from happening. What we need to look at is the cause of it. Well, lets see, we have some pretty damn violent video games that we allow our children to play which glorifies firearms and killing people. Thats one small segment, the other is the lack of compassion and understanding for those with mental illnesses. No I'm not saying these people should be locked up, but look into why so many people are around today with mental illnesses. We've got a growing global population of some 7 billion and resources will start getting scarce. Theres no denying it, its just a matter of time.

But getting back to the point here. Guns are not the problem, its the individuals who commit the crime that is the problem. Look at drunk driving, do we blame the car or car manufacturers or the alcohol manufactures or the store or the bar that served the individual? Well in some cases the bar owners have been sued, now most of them have a cut off for some clients, however all it takes is one idiot to get behind the wheel of a car and plow into a group of people or into another vehicle. Do we blame the car? No, we dont. When there is a fight that breaks out and knives and baseball bats are used, do we blame the bat or knife manufacturer? Again nope, so stop pointing the fingers at the guns and start pointing it at the individuals that commit it. Guns are predominant in the American culture and you will not get rid of them no matter what. So turn your focus into something more constructive at dealing with the problem.

I've seen people screaming for police officers to be stationed at the schools or security, yet the costs to do that would kill any school board. Believe it or not, over 40% of the population owns a firearm and of that 40% many of them train and use their firearms at the ranges to keep their skills sharp. These are the people that should be permitted to carry concealed, provided they pass the background checks that are necessary in many states. The minute people realize that if they want to use a firearm in public for an evil reason, theres a very good chance that the first person they encounter could be someone that can and will stop them with deadly force. You will find that the crime rate will plummet, especially those with guns. Cops cannot be everywhere and their response time can be anywhere from minutes to hours. When seconds count, like in these shootings, you will be praying that someone can stop the shooter.

one has to wonder how much of this has to do with the widespread belief the world will end in 5 days.

I don't know papa but I do know I'm going to be out having a good time thursday and friday just in case :YMPARTY:

Candyman,

The colour of one's skin does not have anything to do with these shootings.

Here's a suggestion, stop being an asshole!

Guns do not discriminate. Again....let's ban guns.

only if you include mandatory death sentence if a gun is used in during a crime and no wiggle room in the sentence.

The will I consider your fear filled idea
