My dad would have turned 82 on April 2, 2014. Sadly, April 8, 2014 will be 6 years that he's gone to the exact day. My dad came to Canada from Scotland after serving in Korea with the Her Majesty's Armed Forces. He came from a large family 3 other siblings, 2 brothers and a sister and 3 siblings that died just after birth. He was the third of 4 and the only one to leave Scotland. He told me that leaving Scotland, marrying my mother (50 years, 2 months, 2 days before she passed in 2004) and having me as a son were the happiest things ever to happen to him. He told me his saddest moments were that he needed to leave Scotland so he wouldn't fall into the traps of his family, the death of his eldest-my sister that I never met and how badly my (sibling) brother turned out to be.
My mom passed away in our home. My dad spent all but the last 3.5 days because I couldn't do the care; I needed to just be his son but I held his hand as he moved on to be with my mom again.
Damn I have seen this one before but now need Kleenex.
Damn I have seen this one before
Dad was not the model father.
Time heals and understanding progresses and reconciliation prevailed.
I understand that not everyone gets along with their parents for numerous reasons and realities but there are probably times that everyone wishes things had turned out differently.
One of my favorite songs.
