I feel bad for the people of Ontario. The Canadian province is dying the most painful, extended economic death seen anywhere outside of the European Union in many years, all while the effete government leaders continue to gamble with real people's futures, if not their very lives in a selfish bid to retain political power.

So many good people are well and truly screwed. And it will get far far worse for the people of Ontario before it starts to get better, regardless of election results. Simply too many bad decisions to redress, and not enough time. Could be 30 years before the Province of Ontario truly starts to turn an economic corner towards stability and prosperity.

That's $14 per hour, with a maximum number of hours per week, so none of the 'part time' employees qualifies for legal holiday pay, or any other fringe benefits. Employers save money by 'creating' jobs by having eight part timers, instead of five full time staff, with the perks of the long term staff, by now in 'do nothing' middle management positions, with no real duties, other than to find creative ways to waste time, like posting on this board. It certainly helps that schools are churning out graduates who can't even write with a pencil and pen, because they never learned how to spell without spellcheck. They do, however, know how to consume heavily advertised products. When someone celebrates being hired for an unpaid internship position, it makes me cringe. I see 'kids' of 35 daily, overpaid at minimum wage, where there only virtue seems to be not being a threat to their incompetent supervisor. Young people throw away their clothes when they get dirty, because they can get free clean ones from some charity, and they never learned how to do their own laundry. Thank you, Doctor Spock!

Minimum wage should be abolished.

That is step one. Step two is the minimum income.

Three step is cutting down the size of the Ontario social/welfare complex. Instead of paying social workers to make sure welfare is being distributed, distribute the welfare funds directly to the poor and working poor.

The people who support the minimum income, are people on the left and on the right, for their own ideological reasons.

That is rather ironic, that the polar opposites agree here.

The people who are vehemently opposed to the mere suggestion of minimum income, are the Liberals or centralist or the left of center.

The reasons they oppose minimum income, is that it would appear they favour the status quo of current programs helping the poor and expand on those same social programs.

Wynne raising the minimum wage like this, seems like an example of this issue. A minimum income or more attempts at social welfare?

What seems apparent to everybody, you can't do both. You cannot do both minimum income and more social welfare. The government, any government cannot afford it.

Note that, we probably cannot afford the current levels of social welfare. So we have to expect this minimum income idea to gain more traction in the next couple of years.

The new minimum wage is a good idea in Toronto. A person cannot live on 11.00 an hour and if a business can't afford to pay someone a living wage, then get out of business.

The secure fulltime job has disappeared and replaced with temporary contract and part time work. It use to be students working partime positions which made sense to pay a little less, now these positions are filled with adults trying to put food on their tables.

A corporation like McDonalds should be obligated to pay it's staff at the very least $15.00 an hour, it's about farking time.

If I'm not mistaken, are there not already three pilot projects in motion now in Ontario under the current government which are experimenting with implementation of a flat-rate, guaranteed income in lieu of social benefits? Likely the next broad-based and foolhardy foray into social engineering by that province's irresponsible leadership conceived more to save themselves money and get re-elected as opposed to actually helping real people in the long run. :no:

What gets to me is why does the government dictate how many vacation weeks a company should give its employees after 5 years?. Is the government going to pay for that extra week?. There should be two different set of rules-laws. One for small businesses and another for corporations.

The profit margin is small enough that this may lead to more bankruptcies.

I do like it that part timers will no be treated fairly. But that's it.

San Fran wants to get rid of all robots and drones that take away jobs from humans. Having a robot deliver pizza pays for itself in a few months as opposed to the unskilled worker making $15 per hour. If you are trying to support your family and own a small business, wouldn't you want the robots?.

Why doe the government insists on telling us what to do after we invest our retirement money on a business venture?.
