2010 -- Alberto Contador, winner of the 2010 tour has been provisionally suspended for returning a positive test for clenbuterol from a sample taken at the Tour de France, the International Cycling Union (UCI) said on Thursday.
-- Although a B sample had already confirmed the first test, Contador's result had shown "a very small concentration" of clenbuterol, which the Spanish rider had blamed on food contamination in a statement.

Ya... sure... I believe him!

It's a shame for cycling. I'm on the fence if he's clean or not. I'm sure he's used in the past being caught up in the Spanish scandal, however I think for the most part the tour is cleaner then it ever was. There is a great article about relative times and power outputs on the big climbs which are substantially off what they had been in the past tours.

Depending on the era the cyclist was in, it is almost impossible to not have taken performance enhancing drugs. Landis was a product of that as Lance certainly was. The shift to blood doping was a reaction to the testing. If Alberto had high hemotocrit levels, then I'd believe it. Getting caught with a bit of old school steroids makes no sense.

Then again Landis getting caught with a bunch of synthetic testosterone makes no sense either, so maybe it was just a screw up on his part.

Either way, it's a shame given that cycling was finally getting off the mat and hopefully this will pass and Lance won't get nailed and they can keep going in the right direction.

Completely agree...

Personally, I'm of the belief that most top tier athlete's are doing everything within their power to maximize peak performance... whether that is better equipment, better training techniques or better physiology.

In looking into this story further, many experts are saying that with the minuscule traces found, it was in fact "possible" to test positive through contaminated food...

OOPS! Totally missed that... (I was busy at 12:27 am banging headboards with the wife!) :na:

Drugs are EVERYWHERE in pro sports, they might as well stop testing and let athletes take whatever they want

For every 1 guy they catch doping there's 99 guys that found ways to beat the tests.
Beta-blockers can be used to beat steroid testing. And there's also ways to beat amphetamine and ephedra tests.

Another TDF dude has tested positive btw, 2010 runner-up Ezequiel Mosquera: https://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/other_sports/cycling/9048556.stm

I had heard his drug of choice was exlaxx mage him really want to hit the head at the finish

No one else on his team tested positive ?

They must all be vegans.
