The gun owner will say he is a responsible gun owner :unknw:

NASHVILLE — Authorities say a 4-year-old boy grabbed a loaded gun at a family cookout and accidentally shot and killed the wife of a Tennessee sheriff’s deputy.

Investigators say Wilson County Deputy Daniel Fanning on Saturday was showing his weapons to a relative in a bedroom of his Lebanon home when the toddler came in and picked up a gun off the bed. Sheriff Robert Bryan says the weapon discharged, hitting 48-year-old Josephine Fanning.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. The child is not related to her or her husband.

Bryan says the shooting was a terrible accident and that within seconds of Fanning placing the gun on the bed, the toddler picked it up.
“It’s a sad, sad set of circumstances,” Bryan told local television.

The gun was not Fanning’s service weapon and the sheriff says the deputy’s weapons are normally stored in a safe.

CBS News reported the Fannings were only married last year.

The owner was irresponsible and now someone has paid a heavy price for it.

Let's hope he gets at least 20 years behind bars.

That is why you can never take a gun for granted. There should not have been a loaded gun sitting on the bed. The gun should be stored unloaded and especially when showing it to someone in a situation where it isn't going to be fired (like a bedroom). The owner was irresponsible and now someone has paid a heavy price for it.

Agreed. Why was it loaded if he was just showing it off?

This case just shows that the margin of error with firearms is very slim.

Unfortunately this tragedy cost a persons life.

Given the set of circumstances I'm not sure a prison sentence is necessary.

The weight of the mental anguish alone is enough punishment in my opinion.

So I break into a bank, spend all the money, get caught...I feel real anguish. Can I walk away? Breaking the law is breaking the law.

That was not the sign of a responsible firearms owner..... yes jail term should be given out and used as an example of why you shouldnt take firearms for granted

Let him deal with it for the rest of his life. Those gun happy show offs should take notice.

1. He's a deputy? WTF!

2. Why was a 4 year wandering around, obvously unsupervised.

What is wrong with thesun?

He hates and does not approve women that do not think his way.

Unlike you that have a good head on your shoulder.

By the way I read THESUN's threads. I don't think he is so bad. I personally think he was attacked for presenting his opinions. It is obviously he isn't a "white knight." I think I was more shocked to see that he received hostile PM messages from a member here. But then again, Annelise thinks I am "thick." :biggrin2:

Conspiracy Theory - Why was Josephine in his bedroom. I think he or his wife may have shot her and blame it on the todler.

That is an interesting observation of yours. First of all, go back and read what I wrote. I expressed my opinions and if anyone doesn't agree with them, that is their choice. It is irrelevant if a person who disagrees with me is a male or female. I am sorry to disappoint you that I am not a weakling who must agree with everyone. Just strange to receive PMs and emails from certain members that I have a hidden agenda or some personal agenda. Some people's imaginations knows no bound.

Welcome back Peace!:good: Glad someone could see from my perspective. Thank you.
