7 Caught trespassing at Quabbin Reservoir, main Massachusetts water

BELCHERTOWN (CBS) – Shortly after midnight Tuesday, seven people were caught trespassing at the Quabbin Reservoir.
State Police say the five men and two women are from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Singapore, and “cited their education and career interests” for being in the area. The men told police they were chemical engineers and recent college graduates.

The, in Belchertown, is one of the country’s largest man-made public water supplies. Boston’s drinking water comes from the Quabbin and the Wachusett Reservoirs.
State Police say there were no warrants or advisories on any of the individuals and “there was no evidence that the seven were committing any crime beyond the trespassing.”
All seven were allowed to leave and will be summonsed to court for trespassing. The FBI is investigating and routine checks of public water supplies have been increased following the incident.
The seven individuals currently live in Amherst, Cambridge, Sunderland, Northampton and New York City. Police have not released their names because a court date has not been set.

I'm glad we're not yet at the point where we detain people on misdemeanor charges because of where they happened to be born.

Yes, they walked away. But for sure right now the FBI, CIA, and all of DHS are crawling through every aspect of their lives, and they are probably under surveillance. If there is anything terrorism-related going on, they will find it.

FRAMINGHAM (CBS) – The says someone cut the locks to three hatches at one of its aqueducts in Framingham.
The incident occurred at the Hultman Aqueduct, which is one of the two lines that carry drinking water to the Greater Boston area.

The three padlocks were cut from separate access hatches located at approximately half-mile intervals along the aqueduct. Police say there is evidence of an attempt to cut a fourth lock.
State Police are investigating, though they say “there is no evidence of any crime other than vandalism.”

The MWRA says it doesn’t appear anyone tried to tamper with the water supply and there does not appear to be any contamination or changes in water quality.
Last month, State Police stepped up patrols at public water supplies after seven people were caught trespassing at the Quabbin Reservoir in Belchertown.
