"This is a pretty heartbreaking story," says Eyder Peralta at NPR News. Sometime between the last week of October and Thanksgiving, an 80-year-old Moline, Ill., man donated a grey suit to Goodwill - leaving in the pocket his life savings, $13,000.
Adding to the tragedy, the money was earmarked for medical expenses for the man's wife, who is fighting stage 4 cancer. The man has asked that his name not be released, because he is embarrassed. Here's what you should know:

Why did the man have his life savings in his pocket?

The man grew up during the Great Depression and reportedly doesn't trust banks.

What is Goodwill doing to help?

As soon as the man realized what he'd done, his family and Goodwill employees scoured the store for the suit. Goodwill is still "sorting through the donations that came in at the time," both in Moline and at the regional warehouse in Iowa City, Iowa, says Goodwill spokeswoman Dana Engelbert. "We're hoping it's still there and we can find it." In case somebody already bought the suit, the man's family is offering a $1,000 reward, no questions asked
.

I feel bad for him but really, keeping that kind of dough in a suit pocket? Jesus not even a mini safe or anything like that......

My Grandmother keeps money all over the house, she's says when she goes check EVERY nook and cranny

If you buy that suit, what would you do?

Keep the money?

That's a good question.....but if I was poor enough to be shopping for a suit at goodwill, I would need it as much as good will does. If I knew about the old gaffer story, I might just give it back but if it was just goodwill? Nah, I'd keep it.

I'd keep the money to teach him a lesson.

He's old enough to know better. :bs:

*NOTE* to myself..... never drop a toonie around Auggie and T.

The thing is, I said if I knew it was the old guy's I'd probably return it but if it was the company's? Not likely. One reason being is that when I moved I put a bunch of stuff into bags for goodwill. Only problem was I donated the wrong bag. I gave away a $500 leather jacket, a $1000.00 suit, and maybe $1000 worth of other clothes that I wanted...and ended up with a bunch of stuff I didn't want.....

That must have had you cursing up and down. I misplaced a $1500.00 bracelet, I went nuts for a month.
