Hi all it has been a while but do need some suggestions. I am a retired widower for those that don't know who I am. Been out of touch with what is IN and OUT of what to buy for a child.

I think you can get Canadian Savings Bonds for $100, if that is not too large in this situation.

well, a barbie would be a little much for a newborn...don't cha think? I mean, why not just get it an ipad? lol.....or maybe (like I did a long time ago) a digital watch? lol (I also got a 1 yr old birthday card and put a decimal point in front of the 1 lol......since it was a day old ya know...mom got a kick out of it lol).

If you want practical, get a gift certificate for shoppers or something because they are going to need a boat load of diapers and other things. If you can find out how prepared they are, babies always need sleepers, receiving blankets, and if she's going to breast feed, nipple cream heheheh

Don't know what your budget is but they'll need car seats, stroller, papoose (you know, that cool thing mom wears around her shoulder and hip to carry the bambino in).

Sort of like this one, the ones I've seen leave both hands free to do stuff around the house while carrying the little tadpole....



Also, Mom's going to be sore so a bottle of advil isn't a bad idea either lol....

A buddy had a baby boy not long ago so I made a wall plaque for his room....I made it like a tavern sign and it said "kelly o'doyle's pub and grill" and instead of a beer stein, I put a baby bottle on it...

I also made one for the door to another friend's baby room. It said "Prince's Suite" lol

Nowadays new parents often have a gift-registry somewhere, maybe your daughter would know if they do.

Gift-certificate for housecleaning is never a bad idea, they won't have time to do it themselves.

they're probably really cheesy now.....mine is very classy, with tiny fleur de lis, a tiny clock at the top, etc.....the thing is, they are practical too. My mom used em on us until we were a couple of years old...........
