If you know the meaning of the term "left handed compliment", this is one of em!

I think Kodak or Codak, or whatever the name is could definitely benefit from Femme Fatale's Foto ability:

Now for the right handed barb:

I mean seriously folks, those are some of the crappiest photos ever published....

FF, I'd be contacting these people asap, could be your first....or next customer!

Good points Tboy. How much does Femme charges per sp?.

I dunno but whatever she charges Codak or Kodak could certainly benefit........

Hey Tboy what are you doing here. Should you not be at work

I have worked with some of the major players in this business from Mirage to TGF and with some of the most well known Indies such as Noir and Leslie as sampled on my profile. Just to name a few.

I am not going to SPAM and insult some agency because they are using amateur photos. Sorry. If this agency would like to have new photos done then they can contact me directly like everyone else does.

However please remember that while those pics may not appeal to you, there are quite a few men who like the amateur photo style. Maybe that is what they are going for. Who knows??? It is not for me to judge.

In the future though, should I need an advertising consultant - I will be sure to contact someone professional. Thanks.

Prospecting for new business is not spam, it's part of business.

I think that Tboy does not deserve your curt reply. He was making an observation and was trying t be helpful.

however, please feel free to run your business any way you like.

Left Handed Compliment

A criticism or insult disguised as a compliment.
A compliment with two meanings, one of which is unflattering to the receiver.

Advertising is apart of any business, I agree. I just do not believe that it needs to be done via contacting the person directly without invitation, insulting their current work and say that I can do better. That is just me and the way I feel about it.

Being that this is only a part time thing as well, I am not relying on it for my full source of income. Therefore, I am not in desperate need to maintain a large clientele base or actively and aggressively seek out new clients. New is always great and I would love to work with them or anyone else. However, only after a person as inspected my work and contacts me themselves.

That addresses the rest of skiierman's post nicely. Thank you.

It's a bit rude to point how how "crappy" someone's pictures are, I don't understand the point in doing it.

I wouldn't call those shots the most alluring in the world by a long shot.

FFP's work from what I have seen is much superior.

It would just be prudent to get the best pics possible to attract the widest array of clientele.

tboy does have a point here.

He might have a point, but insults aren't helpful.

Oh, I bet you're against us rating women in the GHM, SSG and DH threads too? My you're quite the white knight, not just defending females, but agencies too!

As for FFP's reply: well, obviously she's not used to the concept of cold calling prospective clients which is how, being a professional and all, you would think she would approach this agency......

lol, I was thinking of this as I was rating the GHM immediately after posting this.
I'm not perfect.
Maybe I'm a white knight for saying something is rude, but it doesn't change that your left handed compliment was unnecessary as well as unhelpful. Just mean.

It is not about being use to a concept or not. I already explained my position which would address your cold calling suggestions.

Thank you for your interest in my business but I am happy with where I am at in this moment and should I feel the need to changes things, then I will at that time.

Actually, it was the right handed barb that was in question....

It was only unhelpful since FFP decided not to contact codak or kodak in search of new business.....

Need I remind you auggie that whenever you post something online, you are bound to get compliments, kudos, positive remarks, negative remarks, insults, criticism etc etc.

If you don't want to open yourself up to every form of comment, then, well, don't post anything online in a public forum......

Suppose I started a thread about one of the ladies out of the blue - just for fun let's say Rebecca Richardson. If I pointed out that her latest pic was cheap and amateurish and told her I knew a photographer who could do better, would you agree that was rude and out of line? Something I could have PM'd her in private?

Not like me to jump in or anything but...

Those ARE crappy photographs, anyone can see that. I'm not knocking the business here, perhaps they had to get something up and are waiting for better ones to be edited as we speak, but as it stands now, even if the young ladies photographed were supermodel material, one would never know it. As for soliciting business, there is nothing wrong with it whether one is a full time professional or doing it part time to supplement their income. As a photographer myself, I can say I have gotten upwards of 70% of my business by asking for it. I know the style of photography I do is not for everyone, but if I see a person I'd like to shoot I approach them and give them the 'sell'.

The difference being that RR's photos, (as well as many of the more predominant advertisers on this board), do not have bad...

and I will now define bad

Out of focus, blurred, incorrect white balance, improper depth of field...

photographs that literally demand a critique. Some might not be the best available, but most are not bad enough to detract business.

If she started a thread saying "hey look at my new photos"? I would say NO problem making positive or negative comments about it in public. Now if she'd sent you photos in private, then yeah, make your comments in private.

Even if she didn't start a thread stating "hey, look at my photos" just one that said "I'm available....." if we could post in the advertising thread it wouldn't be out of line to comment that the photos weren't that good......see, posting something in public doesn't necessarily guarantee you're going to get the comments you're fishing for. (or hoping for).

Now if the photos were reasonable, then I wouldn't have tried to put two and two together. I mean, those photos look like they were shot with a cheap cellphone....and, afterall, this is a BUSINESS we're talking about, not an individual person (so the RR analogy doesn't really fly).

Now if I came and started a thread on the wall clocks I build, and the photo was so crappy you couldn't tell whether it was a clock or a box of muffins, everyone has a right to say hey, your photo SUCKS ass....lol......(just like when I make comments or post threads and everyone doesn't agree with me, I'm cool with that...in fact, I'm GLAD not everyone agrees with me....what a boring world this would be if everyone agreed with everyone else).

(and notice I didn't say one word about player's spelling mistakes?? lol)
