Joe lost his job last year and hasn't been able to find a job since. Has moved back to his parent's house because he couldn't afford to pay rent. He calls me up to borrow a few dollars to take her out to the movies and dinner. I gave him half of what he asked for because I know I will never see the money again. He is a good friend, not a big deal and he knows never to ask me for money again.

He calls me again asking me what ideas I have or suggestion where to take her that won't cost him too much. I said just don't date dude, lol.

It is just not for one day but everyday now that he has to spend money that he doesn't have. She knows he doesn't have a job but at the same time how long can she go on with him if he doesn't entertain her?.

Anyway, asking members here. How does one entertain a girlfriend the cheap way :unknw:

Hey maybe Danny may know Hmmmmmm

spend time with each other, cuddling and watching Sleepless in Seattle night after night.

the problem should fix itself.

Of course his getting a job is out of the question?

Are you kidding me? There's so much to do for free or on the cheap: High Park, the waterfront, Dundas Square, the AGO on Wednesdays, street festivals, picnics, Cherry Beach...

Tell him to ask her to pay. I do it all the time. Women dig that stuff :-Cool/"

If he can't afford to pay your own rent you should not have the right to have a girlfriend.

A job is a job!

He's a bum and if he wants to play he needs to find a job. I'd give him 20 bucks to detail my car.

I'm gonna disagree with some on here. Being unemployed is one thing, I have been there may times having worked in automotive. The important thing is that he WANTS to be employed and is looking. Just because a dude is broke should not mean he has no right to find love.

Interesting point here... One time when I was unemployed I went to get a factory production job, (I have always been in management), I had one hell of a time getting employment even as general labour because no one wanted to invest the training and time just so I could leave after a short period when I got back in my field. I hate to say it, but I do the same to others.:sorry2:

Some GREAT ideas are...

High Park
St. Lawrence Market
Kensington Market
Picnic
Bicycle ride on Centre Island
Drive north and look at the stars
Go for a hike
Day at the beach
Do some volunteering at a food bank
Rent a movie
Geocaching
Play some basketball on an outside court
Driving Range

Even when I have money, I'm still the KING of the cheap dates. Money does not always = fun.

Listen, think back to when we were in high-school and didn't have a lot of money or any money. We'd hang out with friends, go for walks, picnics (yes picnics), I recall my high-school sweetheart just loved walking my dog with me for hours.

As a kid, I had a pool, so there was the date right there, bbq, sit by the pool have a drink or two, walk her home because my dad wouldn't let me drive (smart dad) They taught me how to drink responsibly and my friends too.

If you really think that spending a bundle on a date is the way to impress, you're wrong. Something that is well planned out or just spur of the moment, but the date must be interactive, no movies.
