There is more and more evidence that alzheimers and diet have a connection. Interesting science.

Untangling Alzheimer’s

Investigating the effect of insulin on brain cells in Alzheimer’s disease - Alzheimer's Society

Here’s a list of foods linked to increased rates of Alzheimer’s disease:
Processed cheeses, including American cheese, mozzarella sticks, Cheez Whiz and Laughing Cow. These foods build up proteins in the body that have been associated with Alzheimer’s.
Processed meats, such as bacon, smoked turkey from the deli counter and ham. Smoked meats like these contain nitrosamines, which cause the liver to produce fats that are toxic to the brain.
Beer. Most beers contain nitrites, which have been linked to Alzheimer’s.
White foods, including pasta, cakes, white sugar, white rice and white bread. Consuming these causes a spike in insulin production and sends toxins to the brain.
Microwave popcorn contains diacetyl, a chemical that may increase amyloid plaques in the brain. Research has linked a buildup of amyloid plaques to Alzheimer’s disease.
Healthy Foods That Boost Memory
Changing dietary habits is never easy. However, avoiding foods that induce memory loss and eating more of the foods that boost memory improves your chances of enjoying all-around health.
Here’s the list of foods that help boost memory for seniors and the rest of us:
Leafy green vegetables
Salmon and other cold-water fish
Berries and dark-skinned fruits
Coffee and chocolate
Extra virgin olive oil
Cold-pressed virgin coconut oil

I love kraft cheese slices for grilled cheese sandwiches but I also love green leafy vegetables so I'm hoping it's a trade off.

Note: This is the same memory loss condition that some people call "Oldtimer's Disease".

Yes flash, and it might be preventable by simply eating a healthier diet. It is also a "disease" that inflicts those of all ages, not just "oldtimers". foods can be curative, the right foods, that is:)

Yes flash, ... inflicts... :)

Afflicts. "Inflicts" = 'to impose'; Afflict = 'to distress'. Not to be confused with "in flicks", or Ben Affleck, who has been in flicks.

Well not really all ages.

Early onset is usually between the ages of 40-50

Younger/Early Onset | Alzheimer's Association

Thanks Maurice, in my reading I found a few articles that mentioned those younger than 40 having the disease or signs of it, hence my mention of all ages. Although most articles do discuss seniors and the mid aged. This is one

@flash, lol, thanks for the correction, good to know you are on your toes, stay just as keen about your behavior here:wink2:

@ Cristy: people should also avoid drinking Chinese cooking wine. That stuff is like sea water, with 18%.

Most likely, there is a genetic factor that makes Alzheimer's Disease a possibility; there's some town or region in Peru, I think, where almost everybody is afflicted, at an early age - that was on 60 Minutes. If the gene isn't present, probably an individual will never get Alzheimer's, regardless of their food/ beverage consumption, or lifestyle. If it is present, one or more other factors will act as catalysts to make it more likely to occur. The same is probably true for things like lung or other cancers.

Drinking too much alcohol isn't going to help anyone's memory. That's why a lot of people do it. They don't want to remember what they've done, what they're doing, what they're planning to do, or how much they've already had to drink.

Apparently you've experienced this Chinese cooking wine, hopefully you've given it up by now:) To the rest of your post, good points:) I'm going to look for that 60 mins episode, used to enjoy watching that show:)

Cristy, I found an unopened bottle of Chinese cooking wine two days ago. I drank about 5 milliliters; the first and last time I'll ever taste that stuff. I then gave it to a friend of mine from The Democratic Republic of the Congo who watched me drink a bit, (as did an impartial witness), and I don't know what my friend did with it, but several hours later, he had a new butane lighter, and a nice new metal cigarette box, full, that I'd never seen before. I find great 'salvage' all the time, but I never sell it; I just keep it, or give it away to somebody, sometimes to someone in particular, sometimes to the first person who wants it, if I don't. I can walk through the seediest parts of town, late at night, without incident, because I know how to do it properly. Some ways you look to earn, some ways you look to break even, or near enough to make a difference.

Somebody must have drank the rest of the cooking wine, whom that is not my concern. That's how thinks work, a few blocks south of where I live.
