As the province continues to stress the importance of respecting public health orders to limit the spread of COVID-19, a small group of people who feel restrictions have gone too far held a rally near Vernon’s City Hall on Sunday.

“We have had enough! We have had enough fear! We have had enough restriction on our jobs and our lives,” wrote organizer Sylvia Herchen in a social media post promoting the event.

“We feel that the measures taken to battle the virus are detrimental to society. All elements of society are injured by this methodology of lock down over the whole world.”

Herchen questioned the validity of coronavirus statistics, and told Global News she feels the cure may be worse than the disease.

“We are rallying together because we feel that our rights have been trampled … by all the things that they are not allowing us to do to protect us from one little virus,” she said.

Public health officials have urged people to avoid non-essential travel, stay home, and keep two metres apart from others when out in public.

Herchen noted that participants stood apart from each other at the gathering to maintain the recommended physical distance.

On Monday, provincial heath officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said most people are following the rules and it’s making a difference in protecting people at high risk of severe symptoms or death due to COVID-19, such as seniors and people with compromised immune systems.

Global Okanagan was not granted the opportunity to ask about the Vernon rally at the province’s daily media briefing, but Henry was asked about a video posted on social media filmed at a similar event in Vancouver.

Health Minister Adrian Dix said a small number of people have been behaving “very badly” and trying to promote themselves, and urged the public to not be distracted.

“Don’t promote them. Don’t look at them, but focus on what we need to do together,” he said.

People had to know this was coming. How long before there are rallies here in ON? In the GTA? Around the world?

How long are people going to “stay home” before they lose it and say enough is enough?

Sorry have to disagree.

How would you decide when its OK to have people congregate in down town Toronto.

Plus, those idiots want the governments to now somehow decide what regions/localities are to arbitrarily be exempt ?

Just how the hell would that be accomplished ?

By the ratio of people per square mile, or acre or square foot?

Ontario had the HIGHEST number of new infections today.

They are all gung ho now, until one of their parents dies because the rules were allowed to be relaxed.

Besides, its not just the elderly that are dying, doctors and nurses and truck drivers are also dying.

How many times do we have to hear the term,... "2nd wave."

Look I get it, its easy for me to not have a real issue, I live in a residential area of a small town.

We all go for walks in the streets, but still keep our distances, actually pull up lawn chairs on opposite sides of the streets, shoot the shit, and have a beer.

Doc,... speak up dude.

I'm just wondering when more rallies or protest will start and how our government will handle them in the months to come.

People are not going to just continue to stay home, without work, without money, with food supply chains decreasing, etc for very long.

I project when CERB runs out, watch out.

People are receiving money, including students, some of which as far as I'm concerned, not deserved.
I have not experienced any food supply issues, unless some one is in a store filled with ass holes that are binge buying, and I have not experienced that.
The general responsible public frowns on that.

Rallies and protests are illegal now, and in the immediate future.

So that would be anarchy, and has to be handled as such.

Thank god we have some one with guts here in Ont., unlike Wynn and Mcwimpy.

So has anybody seen some idiots to our south, ala BC, in large close together crowds.

I sure as hell hope there are good images of them, so facial recognition can be used when any one of them show up at testing points, and test positive, and then be told to go home and cure yourself, but have large wooden boxes handy..

Watched it on the news. I feel sorry for the human race to be associated with Them people.

It's okay as long as they are covered in Jesus’s blood. Lol

I blame this on Trump who is being a complete baffoon handling this pandemic. He is urging opening up the country and it's far too early.

This will surprise you Robertson but I will say, Doug Ford has been the most impressive politician dealing with this evil virus.

Agree with your 1st sentence.

And far as the 2nd, that's just the kind of person you are in reality.

Except for telling people to go and enjoy their March Break, I would agree that he has been a great leader in all this.

I will cut him some slack on this one as so many did not know what was coming.

The only reason I take issue with it is because in the next breath he said schools will be closed until the end of March. It was talking out both sides of his mouth. Which is what I don't like.

Don't you think that is a little strong ?

I know you are a socialist, which I find strange, being self employed.

But the guy obviously misspoke.

Put yourself in his position, putting up with incompetent overpaid civil servants who don't have the intelligence to realize that having medical staff rotate around multiple long term facilities, is utterly stupid, and as he stated when he found out, "just common sense".

And notice how the selfish greedy teachers, all of a sudden agree to the provinces offers, now that they can't hold children and parents hostage.

He is doing a masterful job, so much so that even the socialist Dippers can't find anything of any significance to fault.
Other than their leaders brilliant idea, on national television, just give big checks to EVERYBODY.

You put up with this shit on a daily bases, and not have an off moment.

It's being proven that that model of online teaching isn't working as the teachers said. The kids are NOT engaged. What are you talking about? Soon as the schools open online teaching will disappear. The Civil Servants., SORRY BUDDY, the buck stops at the Premier. Yes I will agree the buffoon is doing a good job during the pandemic but prior he was a total Trumptard!

Glad to see that the online education system is working.

Proves that teachers are just over paid, selfish, and greedy civil servants, who NOW realize that they actually do have a boss.
Hopefully more to come.

And as far as any teacher holidays that come up when school is back in, NOPE, stay in school to help complete a year of education.

But of coarse we all know how they would respond to that,... "our union contract takes precedence over ANY child or parent".

I said I think he is doing great except for that one thing.

You agree he "misspoke" so that is what I am talking about.

It is okay to make a mistake. I'm looking for him to be tarred and feathered. Just saying that is the one thing he did wrong.

Considering that is the only thing he has done wrong compared to many others is actually a great testament to how well he is doing.

Don't take it so negatively. He is allowed to make a mistake and still be doing a great job.
