I have a dog that recently went blind,from Glaucoma, S.A.R.D.S. and other issues. I'm hoping someone may have some care tips( how they handle, live or act with a blind pet), advice or just might want to share.It never hurts to garner info and share experiences from a multitude of sources.

Dogs don't have good vision to begin with, they rely mainly on their keen senses of smell and hearing to make their way around.

My first dog was blind in one eye. Dogs are amazing creatures and will adapt quite easily over time. You'll be absolutely surprised at what they can accomplish and in time you'll forget the limitations he/she has. Just watch over the little one and love him/her in the same way you always have. Their senses will adjust.

Yours however, will become heightened with fear. :biggrin2: Again, try not to stress over it too much.

I've had a dog blind from birth, and a few that lost their vision. They are remarkably adaptable animals. My blind-from-borth would tentatively walk around a new space, bumpikng into stuff, then map it in his head and feel comfortable after that walking (and sometimes running) around. The odd bump when chairs or tables move, but they are resiliant. For those who go blind, they too learn to adapt, but a bit slower. They also get more used to your presence and voice, so I taught the dog to recognize "left and right" so I could tell it which way to turn. Also "watch out" when he was about to walk into something.

I would not do anything different for a blind dog than a sighted one, other than be careful where I put things and talk to them a bit more.

@wanker-we can only guesstimate as she is a rescue-approx 10yrs- breed-min pin and she is from the states
