She abandoned her kids when they were teens and now she wants support. Who is right here?.

This just upsets me, I do not think our kids should be responsible for us when we get older......
Too bad there is not an iceberg close by to put her on..........

If she had not abandoned her kids in their teens I could see her case. My parents gave me everything I needed/wanted when I was young. If they were to fall on hard times I would have a very hard time looking at myself in the mirror if I did not help them out.

But if she wasn't there for them there is no reason why they should be there for her.

Legally, children are obligated to support their aged parents; but it is a law that is almost never used.

I think this is fair. If my old mother ever fell upon hard times, I would sacrifice to take care of her. The catch here is that this is a deadbeat mom and all sympathy resides with the children.

Difference here is you don't need a law to tell you (or force) to help her.

Something doesn't add up. There is a contradiction here.

The children, who are now all grown, claim they don't owe their mother anything because she abandoned them when they were teens

But then, they say.

He says his upbringing was awful and that he was "basically abandoned" at age 15. He says he and his siblings left home in their teens and rarely saw their mother again after that.
