My guess is, that professionals from out side of Canada were contracted, and long gone out of the country before they were found dead.
And I would think that that grade of contractors, know they have no way of collecting the $10 million, that's why TO's top cop says that rewards very seldom work, regardless of the size.

Barry and Honey Sherman were murdered within a few hours of arriving at their Toronto home on the evening of Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017.
Homicide Inspector Hank Idsinga confirmed to the Star this week that "after considering a number of factors that were uncovered during the investigation" his detectives have determined the Shermans were murdered on the Wednesday. They were last seen alive in the early evening that day. Their bodies were not found until two days later.
Idsinga would not reveal what the "factors" are that have allowed police and forensic officers to pinpoint the time of death, saying that to reveal detailed information about the case would jeopardize the homicide probe, now into its third year.
This is a very dysfunctional family and we have a massive amount of money coupled with family members who think they have a right to entitlement. Compound all of this with a company that in some cases behaved poorly in some financial matters.
I believe as others have commented this was an off-shore hit. Who paid for it is probably going to be never revealed.
I am just very surprised that Barry and Honey never had 24 hour security. They certainly knew that the rumblings were getting closer
