Basic Cell phone questions

I haven't needed a cellphone for a while now and we are using a pay as you go phone from 7-eleven.

Now I need a hobby configuration but I'm so confused with what's out there. I'd appreciate it if someone could give me a hand. I did use search and found topics touching on what I'm after but I'm going to lay it out exactly.

Another pay as you go with texting and a decent keyboard and a SIM chip. A second throw away cheap phone but I would keep the SIM chip it comes with. Then swap SIMS depending if I am hobby or civilian mode. I cannnot have two phones.

It has to anonymous of course. That's the basic functionality I need. I know it can be done but I also need to know which store and units to go with.

Whatever SIM is in the device, that's the number the phone will have. If you want a cheap phone, either Chatr or Mobilicity should fit your need.

And can one switch SIMS between their phones or with any phone that uses a SIM card and is unblocked? I understand blocked phones (SIM card phones that don't allow swapping) can be unbloked for a fee? I'm on pretty thin ice here. A whole generation or two of cellular technology has passed me by.

BTW what happens to an incoming text when the phone is turned off or the other SIM is in use. Does it go to some kind of "voice/textmail". ?

As long as the phones are unlocked and operate on the frequency of the carrier, go nuts.

As for an SMS, it will stay in "pending" mode for about a day, then get discarded by the service... although that may be a carrier specific thing.

SMS=texting correct? Or at least the most widely used "type" of texting technology?
