Today I went to California's for an amazing veal sandwich with mushroom and spicy peppers.

Guido stop drooling!

The sauce was awesome and the veal melted in my mouth.

Any other recommendations for a good sandwich??

What area?.

Lower lever of St. Lawrence market. (Especially if you get the one with the breaded eggplant).

I love Commisso's at Caledonia and Castlefield. I usually stop by there when I get the late night munchies.

Best of anything is so subjective.

Each region has its own tilt on most foods.

Pizza, hot dogs and yes even veal parms.

That said if you are looking for the best of the best it starts with veal pounded, so thin it only has one side, t.hen layered onto the bread, until it is thick and tempting.
Breading that has flavor but not so much that is all you taste.
A sauce that compliments the cheese and a bread that adsorbs the sauce but stays crisp.

Remember ground veal is basically over priced burgers

Does it matter what type of bread crumbs are used?

in two words, yes and no.

The type will affect the texture as well as the flavor.

To me best bread crumbs and croutons are home made.
I like to use a crusty French bread or Baguette.

Cube the bread, spray lightly with EVOO and dust with Romano Cheese.
Place under the broiler till well toasted. Let cool then place in a zip lock back and crush with a rolling pin.

You will will have a rustic, course, crumb.

There is a small little trendy shop called the Cookie Crumble in Kleinburg.

The veal sandwiches will literally blow you away!

Are you referring to Kleinburg in Vaughan?

That is correct Baz. It's a small sandwich shop on the main strip.

Go there on a nice day, sit on the patio and if it's a weekend the ladies walking by are enough to build up one's appetite. :wink2:
