The very best movie that you have seen in your life?

IMO, The Godfather was the absolute best.

Wow- big question! I have well over a 1000 titles in my personal collection- since I've been collecting since 1997 when I first bought a DVD player...

It also depends on the sort of mood I'm in...

Drama: Shawhshank Redemption, The Right Stuff, Godfather
Action/ Adventure: Avatar, Raiders of The Lost Ark, Gladiator
Comedy: Blues Brothers, Any Monty Python Film, A Fish Called Wanda
SciFi: StarTrek 2009, Matrix, Star Wars 4-6
Fantasy: Lord of The Rings Trilogy
Superhero: Spiderman, Batman Begins
Animated: Heavy Metal! :)
Biography: Schindler's List, Braveheart, The Pianist
Family: Toy Story, Ice Age, I Am Sam
Musical: Grease (Olivia Newton John's black tights in the closing scene!

)
Mystery: Usual Suspects, The Sixth Sense
Spy: Any James Bond Flick starring Sean Connery, Bourne Trilogy
War: Saving Private Ryan, Apocalypse Now
Western: Brokeback Mountain! LOL (Just kidding, never seen it...) The Good, The Bad & The Ugly hands down!

Blade Runner, 12 Monkeys, Alien

oh fuck, we have the same taste in music.....*shakes head*....you missed Highlander though....

THE best movie?

As CG said, it all depends on the category that's why the academy has different ones each year.

The Matrix for it's innovations in filming. It blew my mind when it came out, the circluar camera shots had me guessing for weeks on how they did it.

Anything by Pixar for their story, and animation. If I did drugs I'd love to see finding nemo or Monsters Inc on acid.....in HD Finding Nemo is mesmerizing.....

For a total mind fuck, Se7en, hands down......

For gungho funny/serious and an all around good time, armageddon.

Bladerunner for the special effects and phylosophical aspects of creating artificial humans then how we deal with them. Also for painting what will possibly be our actual future, bleak, dreary, polluted.

A lot of the brit comedies are a laugh, I could watch Snatch 100 times and still laugh.....get the stone outta the dog, whaddaya mean "get the stone outta the dog", I mean GET THE STONE OUTTA THE DOG!!!

You can watch Blade Runner today and it would be like it was film today. Se7en also another one. Highlander and Matrix only the first ones.

Others, are Natural Born Killers, Sin City( I loved watching it the first time but after that it did not have the say effect) Full Mental Jacket.

That's like music: the telling of just how good a certain song is it can stand the test of time. ie: it sounds as good today as the day it was written. The Beatles were like that, a lot of their songs still sound excellant now. Unlike many of the fluff bs that's produced these days.

Going to see a double bill of The Big Sleep and The Maltese Falcon tonight on the big screen - two Bogie classics that I could watch over and over again.

Sin City was amazing, not sure if it will hold up to a second viewing though. Anything by Kubrick, I like the dance scenes in A Clockwork Orange.

Geez there are so many good movies it sort of depends on what mood you are in.

Do any of you middle aged guys remember rubbing one out after watching the Summer of '42 or The Graduate?

Other favourite old flicks in a wide variety of categories:
Lawrence of Arabia
Guns of Navarone
Blazzing Saddles
Brian's Song
Bonnie and Clyde
Bull Durham
Body Heat
Old Yeller
Semi-Tough
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Rocky
Shawshank
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
Midnight Cowboy
Sparticus

So hard to do when you're not separating genres!
The movie that entertains me the most, speaks most profoundly to me about the human experience, and can be arguably the best made... 12 Monkeys.
Then The Incredibles. Then As Good As It Gets.
A movie I think that is incredibly painful to watch but every person should...The Crossing Guard.
A movie I can watch over and over again and not get bored... Real Genius.

Yes... I'm yanking your chain Amy... in real life I'm not in the popcorn biz...

I have been known however to refer to my "virtual" popcorn bizniz... e.g. whenever a thread starts getting thick with drama, I show up and try and lighten the tone up with an offer to hand out popcorn to the rest of the observers... :)

LOL noooo CG is famous for handing out popcorn on threads where there is a heated discussion on one topic or another heheh....

I can't believe no one mentioned Apocalypse Now yet....that's a classic. The extended version is the better one to watch though.
