Bill Maher: The real link between mass shooters is that they’re all ‘women-repellent’

Bill Maher closed out Real Time on Friday by saying that people should stop trying to blame video games or a lack of religion for mass shooting attacks, and instead focus on how lacking many of the culprits are when it comes to a lovelife.

“This is a pattern no one is talking about: mass killers are almost always male, and almost always women-repellent,” Maher argued. “And what must make it even worse for them is America. Because if you live in America, it just looks like everyone is getting laid all the time.”

Maher noted that Chris Harper Mercer, Timothy McVeigh, and Adam Lanza — among others — were either virgins, constantly single, or both. And they also tended to complain about those facts in explaining their actions.

“They may have been on Prozac because they were feeling blue,” Maher said. “But you know what else was feeling blue? Their b*lls.”
However, in warning viewers about angry “throbbing” male sexual frustration, Maher also tried to link it to Islamic terrorist attacks by showing images of women in niqabs.

“How do you even masturbate to that?” he asked.

There's also much fewer families being raised by single fathers. Has that basic statistic been taken into effect?
No or at least not publicly.
The reason is it does not meet the political test as correct.

Fact his kids do need the balance of a Mother and a Father.

There is far more to it than that....obviously,but he has a point. I love Bill Maher and usually agree with most of his thoughts. Papa also has a point.

Valid points but without merit. There isn't enough proof to back his words up.

I think that what needs to be additionally taken in to account when looking at these numbers are;
- the prevalence of poverty which single parent households traditionally endure,
- the rate of mental instability and/or substance abuse which tends to typically coincide with those who are unable to make and/or maintain healthy relationships,
- and the high rate of children being abandoned by fathers (left to live with mothers) and/or awarded to their mothers through the Order of the Courts despite the presence of a willing and more capable father figure
before too much merit is being given to these types of statistics.

Children being raised under such conditions, whether it be by one parent, two parents, foster parents or otherwise, do not stand much of a chance in avoiding the criminal element or becoming criminals themselves because they lack a sufficient support network and guidance- not because they are being raised single mothers.

Numerous psychological studies can attest to the presence of severe mental illness within the mother, father or both, alongside extreme environmental upset and/or trauma within the lives of criminals and many other highly credited factors which contribute to criminal psychopathology and violence; all of which lay outside of this proposed "single mother" paradigm....

What do all of these criminals have in common?

Aside from being serial killers they were all raised in two parent households

The point-

It's not WHO raises a child; but HOW that child is raised and supported which determines their future; thus is it the appropriacy of the parent/parenting, not the number of parents, which is in question here.

While Maher's rather candid approach at sexual frustration being an underlying factor to criminal violence is a bit offside, his theory does indeed hold some merit...

Many violent criminals commit their crimes as an act of displaced retribution against someone(s) who has caused them personal injury in the past; this is often a secondary object (peer or potential romantic partner) wherein sexual (or social) insult has been doled to a criminal's already weakened ego structure; wherein there lays deeper, displaced feelings of rejection by the primary object(s) and the reason why the "mature" ego is so extremely fragile and highly reactive.

In order to fully understand how this takes place a wealth of understanding in developmental psychodynamic principals must be had; but in short- someone, at some point, had caused this person to feel a very deep sense of selfloathing which had been displaced. Because of which a deep inner chaos and confusion exists alongside the weak integration of the ego structure, thus allowing for any outside sources who might display the same type of rejection (peers and/or potential romantic partners) to continue to probe the internal torment which has already been established. Injury after injury, person after person, rejection upon rejection- all of these things compounding through a process of internalization until they reach their inevitable breaking point where a violent criminal will finally lash out. Lashing out upon those who have hurt them, or upon those who lay as non attached objects/representatives for their internal rage- violence, murder, rape, arson, sadism, etc.. the outcries of a tortured sole as the victim becomes the aggressor....

Granted, this does not happen in every case (not all persons who experience rejection are bound to become violent criminals); however the presence of both deep seeded and/or widespread rejection can be seen in most violent criminals who are not simply the clinical definition of psychopath, spanning across killers, rapists, gang members, etc...

Is Maher mad, or is there some merit to what he said; if early attachments had been appropriated, allowing for well formed adult relationships to in turn be had, would these kinds of criminals exist, or not?

Begging the question,
is this due to the lack of a love life, or due simply to a lack of love? Hmmmmmm

IMO, I tend to lean towards the latter!

So what this means is that mass shooters come from single-parent families, while serial killers come from two-parent families? Hmmmmmm

:good:Yes that's it exactly- 10 points to Gryffindor! :YMAPPLAUSE:

Um.. no...

There was a small bit of satire intended within the last half of my post which I had hoped had effectively represented that linking images to parental upbringing meant exactly squat, however misleading these kinds of graphic depictions might appear.

You make a good point as usual:).....but...they could be the same..no love life...no love. Some derive love, affection/attention from their sexual partners, no conventional relationship needed, just sex and with that they feel loved/wanted/appreciated/needed, etc. Others need a more rounded/conventional relationship to feel loved. Either way, I do believe being loved allows a person to be "complete", a better functioning well rounded, human being. Without love many feel purposeless, unwanted, angry, unimportant, unfulfilled etc. Of course there are exceptions, but just as a flower needs sun and water to grow, we need love:)
I still support Maher's opinion. He is often extreme, but sometimes you have to be to get a point across, remember also, he is a comedian:)

Elliott Layton's book "Hunting Humans" is fascinating, and exactly on this topic. Look for a copy in the "True Crime" section of a second hand bookstore, near you. It has case histories and interviews with many famous serial killers and mass murderers, looking at things like 'legitimacy', home environment, early signs, (such as torturing animals), education, and 'target group'.

In modern times, consider the 'half breed syndrome', of someone like Marc Lepine, with an Islamic father and French-Canadian mother, accepted by neither community, or the vigilante Rorschach, from the "Watchmen" comic book series or feature film. He was the son of a single mom prostitute, who entertained clients in her home, so his opinions of all women were greatly influenced by that upbringing.

To help illustrate that point, here's a scantily clad, pre plastic surgery Cher, from back in the day:

Hmm, I've never heard that song from Cher. Totally forgot how much of a babe she was when she natural.

blackram, "Half Breed" was a #1 hit single, (Billboard Pop), in the USA and Canada in 1973. The video clip, I believe, likely originated from the "Sonny & Cher Show". She dressed like that on the show, Sonny made fun of her nose, and little Chastity was a girl. Now, 44 years later, she still dresses like that. Props to her! Another of her ex-husbands just 'joined the celestial choir', perhaps, but she's still giving younger men wood.

I miss Pamela, her posts were always insightful and intelligent.
I also think we should stop expecting comedians to be politically correct and punishing them when they "err".
