Both of Charcoal's examples would seem to presented with a slant of actual context. In each case, it appears as though the males are to some degree inebriated, and trying hard to de-escalate the situation. The females appear to be the aggressors and the males don't make much sincere attempt at full on physical retaliation.

In the end, the truth is that virtually any male who is sober and in full control of his faculties should be able to easily defend and overcome an attacking female's aggression, and diffuse a violent situation with purely defensive measures. Physically attacking a woman, even if she's gone off the deep end, is fundamentally wrong given the typical imbalance in physical strength between men and the vast majority of women.
