Blackberry Playbook

. . . Some are predicting that in a couple of years, the sale of tablets will outsell laptops. I don't quite buy that yet.

You will after you buy your first tablet.

I am also thinking of getting a BB playbook, as I own a BB torch, but have not yet, as my laptop takes care of all my needs and I just can't justify buying one quite yet. Some are predicting that in a couple of years, the sale of tablets will outsell laptops. I don't quite buy that yet.

No, I don't buy that either, but I think if you gotta pick up a tablet, the Playbook is by far the most useful one to use. Ipads are overpriced toys. Current prices on Playbooks are unbeatable, starting at $199. That was pretty much the price point at which I said I would consider picking up any tablet, and that's the price they're at. $1 more than that was too much IMO. I also have certain criteria for laptop prices, I like $499 as a laptop price, and $1 more than that is too much. My only fear is that if more and more people pick up the Playbook, RIM is all of a sudden going to end the sale prices.

MsFemme... my Acer Iconia can read sdcards directly and the Android market has FTP clients and Adobe Photoshop apps. Dunno if that's something you've already considered or not. I luv this thing

It depends on your needs of course, but my PB (and/or Ipad) have already replaced my laptop. For websurfing, email and document editing, the PB is just fine. Since getting my PB, I hadn't cracked open my home laptop in 7 months. I only booted it up this past December because I got a new Ipad and needed to transfer files/songs/photos, etc to it. Ironic, eh?

I know that everyone says that tablets and "cloud computing" are the next big thing. Personally I'm happier with my Toughbook and keeping all my files and important stuff completely disconnected from the internet.
