My mom's a vet. She studied bulldog jaws many years ago and said they were sorta unique in that when they locked onto something, they could not be unlocked except by the dog's own muscle control. She told stories of baddies being bitten and having to kill the dog to release the jaws. Since bulldogs are extremely stubborn, once they lock on, you're screwed. Unless you have a steak handy.
