Buy a desktop one or can I get by with a tablet as I only log on to view the internet.

Tablets are great for consuming content. If you never create content like writing reviews and such, then it will suit your needs. If you create content, even the most trivial kind like emails on a somewhat regular basis, then a tablet probably won't be enough.

If you're on a budget, then something like a Chromebook will do you just fine. Or, it you're unsure about Chromebooks, you can get a cheap Windows laptop. Specs aren't too important if you're on a budget. They can pretty much all do basic computing needs.

If you need a workhorse, and have money to burn, then that's a whole new ballgame.
