Had a dell for the last 4 years. What is new, best in the market now?.

Thanks gang, your info would be appreciated.

i bought a refurb gateway and other than a few keyboard issues (i hate the layout of the left uppercase button) it's been fine.....

I see NO benefit of paying for a brand name like sony or ?? for thousands of dollars when a $325.00 asus or ?? will do just fine......

Oddball,
is there a store in Toronto that sells the same stuff as tigerdirect.com and reasonable???
thanks

Swagger, Asus is the name of company that sells computers. They have several different models like Dell, with different configurations.

Lenovo is another company that sells reliable systems.

As tboy mentioned, refurbished equipment is a great way to save $. Browse the tigerdirect.com site, they are a great company I have purchased most of my computer equipment from them. If you are looking for the newest, greatest hot-rod for a laptop, the best bet is to go to one of the sites where you can configure your own options. Most all of the makers have a site where you can do this.

Here is a list of major manufacturers along with the model lines they provide:
* Acer - TravelMate, Extensa, Ferrari, Aspire
* Gateway + emachines
* Packard Bell - EasyNote
* Apple - MacBook, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro
* ASUS - Asus Eee, Lamborghini
* Dell - Inspiron, Latitude, Precision, Studio, Vostro, XPS, Studio XPS
* Alienware
* Fujitsu - LifeBook, Stylistic
* Hewlett-Packard - HP Pavilion, HP Omnibook, HP Compaq Notebooks
* Compaq - Evo, Armada, LTE, Presario
* Itautec - Itautec, Infoway
* Lanix - Lanix Portatiles, Neuron
* Lenovo - ThinkPad, IdeaPad, 3000 series
* Medion - Akoya
* Micro-Star International (MSI) - Megabook, Wind
* Panasonic - Toughbook, Satellite, Let's Note (available in Japan only) [1]
* Samsung Electronics - Sens
* Positivo, Platinum, Aureum, Unique, Premium
* Sony - VAIO
* Toshiba - Dynabook, Portege, Tecra, Satellite, Qosmio, Libretto

Thanks man for the useful info.

Not sure of that peace, Toronto is a bit far for me. Your best deals feature-for-feature will be online. Stores sell competent laptops for 95% of the tasks you need a computer to do. Browsing, email, word processing, but you will want to go for more features if using it for gaming, video or image processing. The internet is a fantastic resource for comparing features and prices.

Thanks Oddball. Hopefully some beautiful woman will give you a nice ass grabbing hug. :)

Tiger direct and ncix, Canada Computers all have stores in Toronto although TD and NCIX are all in the 'burbs.

TD has one right at hwy 7 and 400, just go west off the 400, first entrance to the right and you're there......

Canada Computers has a store on College just west of Spadina if you're right downtown and don't want to drive to the 'burbs.....

What is an Asus and how much KB + etc.. does it have?.

I think you mean gb, kb for memory or HDD space went out in the early 80s.....

My $349 gateway has 3 GB onboard memory and 340 gb HDD space. Plus it has a 15.6" LED edgelit LCD screen and HD audio which still sucks via the laptop speakers....no way you can get decent audio from 1/4" diameter speakers, no way no how lol....

I have a HP Pavilion 9700 notebook. Purchased it last year at Best Buy for about 800 bucks. It does the job for me.

The ONLY problem with factory direct is if you have buyer's remorse after using something, there's no turning back/no refunds. Then if it breaks down, they'll send it out for repairs and it could be weeks before you get it back.

Buying a refurb from a more reputable place like Canada Computers or Tiger Direct is a better idea. I wouldn't buy anything over $100.00 from Factory Direct......

If possible I suggest you wait until late summer when there are back-to-school specials.

This morning I rec'd an email from Tiger Direct for $50.00 off this asus laptop....looks pretty decent and not a refurb either....
