I watched the news last night and dear Kathy said she has talked to several industry leaders and advisors about rent control and they all to her it works

Well read the news everyone and look at what the major economists are saying. Most of her ideas will work but rent control will not and it will have adverse affects.
For those that were not around or not old enough to be in the business world let me give you a couple of examples.
Rent controls were introduced by the NDP government when they had power.
Shortly after the election NDP supporters were raving about these new policies
Landlords immediately stopped major expenses on maintenance of buildings
Developers stopped construction of new buildings
approximately 40,000 people were out of work in the construction industry in Ontario
You could count the number of tower cranes in the GTA on one hand.
Companies immediately began to downsize and become lean and mean
Most NDP supporters became less vocal about how great the NDP party was
Once the term was up the rebuilding and correcting the damage began

YUP!!! Rent Control really worked Kathy - It bought the NDP party a tombstone just like it is going to for the Ontario Liberals:YMAPPLAUSE:

First off Developers build buildings to sell units for which +90% of people buy TO LIVE IN. So the rent scene does not effect Developers . Second the economy back then was totally shit in the U.S. & then here in Canada. Thus construction & other jobs dried up in ALL OF NORTH AMERICA.

There is a ton of real estate development going on in the Regent Park neighborhood, east of downtown, right at the moment, and a significant development project has recently been approved, further west in the area known as Cabbagetown.

A number of high-rise apartment buildings are being built east of Parliament St, and over as far as the Don River area, and a condominium building is to be built on the current site of a beer store, on Gerrard, west of Sherbourne.

Apparently, the locals near the beer store are fed up with homeless men rooting around in their recycling bins, looking for empty beer cans and wine/ liquor bottles, which are then redeemed for small change at the beer store, and probably most often flipped for full beer cans. The mindset seems to be that if you remove the beer store around which they congregate, the shopping cart people will migrate elsewhere, and property values of the single family homes in that neighborhood will rise. It's the 'not in my backyard' concept, in which valuable downtown real estate is snapped up, piece by piece, before gentrification transforms an old school neighborhood into one that appeals to those who earn, and pay taxes, and those who are detrimental to property value speculation are pushed to another location. Alternatively, the wealthy who own and want to continue to own their single family dwellings also want the value of their home to increase proportionately, as property and income tax rates rise, so they can turn a decent profit, if they want to move their holding to another person with wealth, when they want to move to a more sedate location, after retirement.

Regent Park seems to be mostly welfare housing and neglected older single family homes, with a high crime rate. By moving the undesireables to that area, the value of the homes desired by real estate developers is depressed, they're snapped up, when they go on sale at or below the market value of, say, six months to a year from now, and when you get all of them in a consecutive block, you build an apartment building on the spot where those houses used to be. In principle, it's no different from the board game Monopoly, and the same thing happened in Atlantic City, NJ, on which the original game was based. Shit properties like Baltic and Mediterranean Avenue pay chump change in rent, if you land on them, but if you get all of one color, you can charge a lot more, by making 'improvements'. If you have two of the three light blue properties between "Go" and "Jail", you entice another player to sell you the third, for some property he wants, so he can 'earn'. Owning real estate used for elite housing and hotels is how many moguls get wealthy, and acquire political influence, and it's all taught through a kid's game, that most people don't really understand. The Don made his money that way, and now he's the most powerful man on Earth. The difference between him and them is that he was able to finance his own campaign, and that way, he isn't owned by those who pay the campaign bills. Mr Trump doesn't even accept a salary for being POTUS; he doesn't need the chump change that job pays. George Washington didn't receive a salary, either, and his face is on the two most common pieces of American currency, and the capital city is named after him.

Mr Trump learned from the scene in The Godfather, Part II, where Mike and Roth are in Havana, after celebrating the old man's birthday, and carving up the cake shaped like Cuba, into territories for each of several business allies. The two meet privately, to discuss the future.

First of all have been in the construction and related field for over 35 years
Yes we have builders/developers and whatever else you want to call them
And yes we have rental buildings and we have condos and we even have condos that are build to rent fawk we even have tents!!
The term DEVELOPER means someone or some company that develops something! ie a property or a product
So if you want to say "the rent scene does not affect developers" you just keep thinking that way.
And as far as the economy at that time goes Yes it is the ripple effect of a sector burdening other sectors but make no mistake ONTARIO was crippled more than any other province or state.
Please don't cloud the issue of Liberal/Conservative/NDP favouritism with the issue and try and make someone look good.
I personally think the large majority of politicians or despicable and back room deals happen every day
But Dalton and Kathy are a plague on Ontario and I can not understand why a federal investigation was not done right at the beginning of the last election.
So if you still feel that I used the term developer incorrectly and that the entire country was in the dumper and that rent controls had nothing to do with it then you just keep cheering for Kathy

Do we want a conservative government that will start heavily coming after people within the industry? Do we need a government prying into our bedroom and who actually raises taxes in the way of user fees? Isn't it better with the devil we know that the devil we don't know?

I'd love to vote NDP but I don't believe they have a chance so my vote once again will go to the Wynne government just to keep out the religious right wing fanaticals.

I hear what your saying I just don' agree with it and I will not accept it!

If you read my post which I believe you did you saw that I stated that most politicians are shall we say crooked!!
So please don't think that I am in favour of one party over the other
My position is accountability! People are sick and tired of being spoon fed BS and being lied to.
Please see the example that just happened south of the border and if you think I am joking just wait!
I believe Canadians Not just Ontarians need to get angry now and speak up and scream for political reform or we will be looking at a repeat of the USA fiasco
For starters we need ballot on the voting card that says NON OF THE ABOVE
if the recoded vote for NON OF THE ABOVE is the greatest then the politician's have to have a new election at their expense NOT AT THE TAX PAYERS EXPENSE
Political party leaders should be voted on by the public not just by the party
No politician should be allowed to cross the floor. Should a politician wish to change parties then a by-election must be held
No ads for a political party will be allowed from a non party source ie unions or religious organizations. All advertisements must be accounted for in the cost of the campaign
Transparency and accountability must be published for all to read.
People need to stand up and demand this now and fight for reform not when we are on the verge of the next election
Then you don't have to waste a vote and vote for one party as the lesser of three evils
Just a start but at least its a startHmmmmmm
