Do you do things that need to be done yourself?

Do you wait around for someone who might be able to do it better?

Or do you say, no way.... too much work let someone else do it?

Yep...if you want something done right....do it yourself:great:

As long as you know how to do it. Seen a few jobs done that were very dangerously built. Not worth saving money if it endangers lives.

Depends on the job.

If its something I can conceivably do? I research it to death and do it myself. If its not... I will find a friend that can help me or in some cases, a service contract makes sense.

Some examples:

  • I renovated my own basement- added 1200 sq ft of living space; office, guest bedroom, billiards room (with a wet bar), home gym room, home theater room and an extra bathroom. Mrs. CG calls it the "man-cave".
  • I built my own deck, fence, shed (with electricity), landscaped rock wall out front, even installed a light post outside our front door.
  • Lawn care- I just laugh when those guys from the lawn care companies come to my door. "What? You guys think you can make my lawn look better than it already does??" Ya right! LOL
  • Computer technician- please!
  • general handyman stuff? Please- Mrs CG regularly "lends" me out to a few of her GF's for just such a thing! LOL (There are benefits- trust me! :))
About the only thing I won't attempt is complicated car service. Sure I'll do brake pads and oil changes etc, but anything beyond that, it gets costly to procure the proper tools etc.

Oh, and I also have a service contract for the HVAC & water heater. Which has paid for itself many times. :great:
