sorry god, but I think a couple of years ago, the lion's share of economic growth was going to the top....30%?.... of the populaton.....I seem to recall reading last year that that number had dropped to the top 10%......pretty soon, like the US, 99% of the economic growth will go to the top .01%, leaving us all to fight over the scraps....you know what that means, poverty, crime, etc etc.
Now, here's a little tidbit of "theory" I've been mulling over the last little while:
My income is now at the level it was 10 yrs ago. I work with some guys who have been with the company for 4 yrs with no increase. THe theory of the owners is: well, at least you have job security, we've got enough work for everyone for the next year.
Ok, fine.....we have job security...so what? THat means literally NOTHING...here's why:
If they don't give out cost of living increases, then every year we're behind by 4%...now that is a conservative estimate by the government who is blind to reality. I can say this because gas itself has increased by 40%....and since we have to pay our own way to the job sites, and the average is 100 kms per day, in my truck that amounts to $15.00 worth of fuel daily......now if that increases by 40% per year, that means in 4 yrs I'll be paying about $50 per day in fuel alone.....
Now back to the "no col increase" if you compound the percentage, it doesn't take long to be earning 20% less per year....in about 10 yrs we'd be earning 30% less per year......
SO the moral is: who in their right mind would see this slippery slope to poverty and not only jump into it, but do it gladly because, after all, we have job security....sorry, that isn't job security, that is POVERTY security.....
The government advertises about job creation and how many were "created" over the past little whle....BFD I say because if these jobs are like mine, it really doesn't mean shit in the long run. Oh sure, in the short term, say 3 yrs, it means more people off their books, but it only delays the inevitable.
I also got to thinking the other day about my earnings.
It costs me about half a day's wages just to get to work (after tax)
The tax man takes another 2 1/2 days in taxes (based on the 66% rule)
It costs me about $10 per week to maintain/replace my tools
It costs me about $5.00 per week to maintain my truck
It costs me about $5.00 per day for food and drink (since I work hard, I have to eat more and drink more to enable me to keep working)
So what it boils down to is I work 9 hours a day, 5 days a week to really only receive the benefit of 2 days wages....
Am I insane or what?
