Some 35 children were playing in an east-end Toronto Community Housing complex when multiple gunshots rang out Saturday night, leaving one man dead and three others wounded. Tammy Davis was outside playing cards with other tenants of 66 Walpole Ave. — in the Greenwood Ave. and Gerrard St. area — just before 9 p.m., while keeping an eye on her two grandkids on the complex’s courtyard playground several metres in front of her.
“The next thing we knew we heard pop-pop-pop-pop-pop,” she said. “Kids started running and screaming. Everyone started hopping over the fence. We heard a woman screech, and you could tell it was a death scream.”
