City Life Vs. Country Life

After school sports: I know more than a few parents who are always driving their kids to ballet, soccer, baseball, hockey practise. That has nothing to do with location, they live in the city, it's all about parenting.

........

That is a very true statement. Which is why I have seen the inside of every sports facility in southern Ontario.

I think my kids have played every sport known to man, imagine the gas money I've spent.

^^^ yup, I can and I can also imagine how well balanced your kids are too......

I wasn't commenting on where you live tboy so dno't take offense. I was talking about my cousins up north. Their road would take over 1/2 hour to walk to the end of and that leads to a highway. There isn't a local bus running up and down the highway picking kids up at the side of the road. Where they are there are no local busses. If you go into gravenhurst I'm sure there are but that's now where they lived and it is a good 5-10 min drive on the highway to get there (really not sure exactly 'cause I don't ever go from their house to gravenhurst) but I would think that would be one hell of a walk. There are 3 kids in that family and all 3 live in toronto now.

I'm not sure about now but I know a year or two ago they only had dial up access to the internet at their house. It was all that was available.
I'm sure there are just as many pregnancies in any high school in toronto as there were in theirs but there are also a hell of a lot more kids in the toronto schools.

I never experienced it so I'm just relaying what I've been told by my cousin. I talk to one of them a lot 'cause he works for us now.

I didn't take offence, just pointing out the other side of the coin as it were.

As for long walks, just goes to show you kids these days. When I spent my summers in farm country a 5 mile walk was average. Hell, we'd walk twice as far as that just to get to royal burger in hastings. But the miles disappear quickly when you have a bicycle. I remember one time we all wanted to go go-carting. The track was 3 or 4 lines over, and 4 or 5 up. The lines were 1 1/4 miles apart so that would be....8 - 10 miles to the track and 8 - 10 back. We didn't think anything of it in those days. It was a part of life as a kid. Now? ask a kid to walk 2 miles to the movies? OMG OMG lol......(oh yeah, we didn't have cellphones, the internet, cable tv, or shoes, they weren't invented then lol)

Yeah, your data is a little old. Just about everyone has access to high speed net now. If they have a phone line they have DSL.

I enjoy coming up north for 2 weeks out of the year. In other words it's a nice place to visit, relax and get the hell back to the hustle and bustle of the city. Although it seems to be working for you tboy and we can't all be city dwellers so enjoy your post card view, just do it from a warm place!:he:

Watch out for those friendly deer!

^^^ you know, we humans are pretty adaptable. I was working outside when it was -24 C and yeah, it was a little cool.....

Then the temp rose up to -4 and I was walking around comfortably outside with just a LS t shirt under a flannel work shirt...(now both days I had longjohns on under the jeans and a watch cap but still I wasn't cold at all at -4).....

I agree with you t-boy.
My work used to keep me out in minus 20 weather as well and I acclimated to it.
Summers were insufferable for me for a while.

I always prefer the cold to the heat. If you're cold, there are things you can do (put on more clothes, go by a heat source, wear proper clothes) but when it's too hot, you can't get any more naked......(and even then if you're in the sun, it isn't better to be naked).

I remember when I was installing windows in the late fall we'd have to keep the truck running to keep the caulking warm otherwise we couldn't use it......I've actually had to walk around with a tube under my coat in my armpit to keep it warm enough to use......
