I really want to try renting a cottage (in Southern Ontario if possible) this year. Would any of you care to share your experiences? Tips? Nice areas you recommend?

Many years ago we rented a place for a week in Buckhorn, just outside of Peterborough. Really nice, quiet place, came with a rowboat. It's a whole bunch of cottages for rent, like a motel. It was really beautiful. They hosted some activities during the day (mostly for kids), trampoline, shuffleboard, bonfires at night.

I can't remember the price because it was so long ago, but I don't think it was too expensive.

Edit: Here's the place!

It costs approximate $1000 a week, you have to give a big deposit depending on the age of the renter. That is as cheap as it gets.

Good luck.

Tobermory is very beautiful and has great hiking trials, a nice beach and other places to explore. Haliburton is great for its sheer beauty and you cant ignore Georgian bay too. It depends what you want to do during ur visit. I have also been to Buckhorn and its a fun place to be also.

I think it's better to have your own private cottage. It's just that it's expensive to rent a cottage every year
