A wannabe crime-fighting cat had to be removed from a police car after it jumped in and grabbed the steering wheel.
The vigilante feline hopped into a police car responding to a call when officers opened the doors.
Sutton police constables Kevin Monk, Liane Walker and Sophie Heywood found they had a guest in the car when the cat got in at 4am on Monday.
When PC Monk tried to grab hold of the cat, it got into the now-empty driving seat, put its paws on the wheel and locked over the steering wheel at the road ahead.
Eventually he got hold of the feline and put it back on the pavement.
‘When the cat had been removed, it just sat there staring at the car as if it wanted to come back in,’ said PC Walker.
‘The cat was lovely and looked really happy in the car.’
