Some previous research has suggested that using cannabis might trigger psychosis in some people, especially those who may be vulnerable because of a family history of related mental illnesses or specific gene mutations.

But the evidence has been unclear. For example, one recent study from the Netherlands found it's equally possible that people prone to psychosis may be more likely to smoke pot, possibly as a way of "self-medicating"

I think both are true.
I've only smoked a few times but one time it triggered a minor psychotic episode so now I avoid it.
But I think many use pot to medicate themselves as well, just like alcohol and other drugs.
Even though I don't use it anymore, I think it should be fully legal. It's a social drug that does less damage than alcohol.
