Daniel Craig Says He’d Rather Kill Himself Than Do Another James Bond Movie

There’s been endless headlines speculating about who could play the next James Bond, and now the current famous superspy has stepped forward with his thoughts on the role.
Daniel Craig spoke candidly about the role and its future in a new interview with TimeOut.
“Look, I don’t give a f—. Good luck to them,” Craig said when asked if he cared who played Bond next. “All I care about is that if I stop doing these things we’ve left it in a good place and people pick it up and make it better.”
Right now, the blue-eyed Bond, who appears next in “Spectre,” can’t fathom doing another 007 film.
“Now? I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists,” Craig said. “No, not at the moment. Not at all. That’s fine. I’m over it at the moment. We’re done. All I want to do is move on.”
Craig went on to say that if he were to decide to go ahead with another Bond movie that “it would only be for the money.”
Whenever he does choose to hang up the Aston Martin keys, Craig did say that he would have one bit of advice for his successor.
“Don’t be s—,” Craig said. “You’ve got to step up. People do not make movies like this any more. This is really rare now. So don’t be s—.

He isn’t above answering it, but “Who’s your favourite 007?” isn’t one of James Bond fanatic John Threlfall’s favourite questions.

It’s because there are many more fascinating things to ponder about the British superspy and how he dominates pop culture, says Threlfall, who launches a non-credit course through Continuing Studies on Ian Fleming’s famous character at the University of Victoria this week.

With the 24th James Bond adventure, Spectre, opening Nov. 6, the timing is ideal for Threlfall to expand on his passion through his new evening course, which runs Wednesdays until Nov. 18.

Deconstructing 007: James Bond, Beyond the Movies is “for anyone who loves their anti-heroes both shaken and stirred.”

While many have become familiar with Bond’s exploits through movies ranging from 1962’s Dr. No to 2012’s Skyfall, there’s much more to Bond than meets the eyes in the multiplex.

The UVic writing instructor and 007 collector will explore the impact and styles of Bond actors Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig, who recently said he’d rather “slash [his] wrists” than play Bond again after his fourth outing, in Spectre.

The survey course will also explore the Bond boom in terms of books, comic strips, music and marketing, and the societal impact of Bond over six decades.

Threlfall will also look at product placement in Bond movies, and corporate alignments many might not notice. “Did the idea of a vodka martini exist before Bond, and who even knew what an Aston Martin was before?” Threlfall said.
