I learned my lesson. Now If someone asks me, can you keep a secret. I say no and walk away.

When a "friend" needs to confess something to me I tell them that they should go see their Priest or Rabbi.

I don't have the room in my conscience anymore to keep secrets for people.

LOL. It sucks, I'm an atheist who can keep a secret, and apparently I'm OK at listening and giving advice / comfort. I have a collection of secrets than run from banal to horrific, yet I'm too paranoid to let other people in on my (not so monstrous) secrets.

Though I actually enjoy the advice giving. How can you be a friend if you can't help carry a load? Though I do extend the word 'friend' cautiously...

Actually its simple for me.
In the past I was too often told a "secret" by someone who should have been telling that to their significant other. I discovered that the secret became a debt that they saddled on you.

Other secrets that I've been told can also qualify me as being an "accessory after the fact".

Everyone knows where Jimmy Hoffa was buried. It's an open secret.

There are no secrets that is what I feel. Once you share your secret it is not a secret anymore, it sad
but true.....So I have no secrets and I try not to get into people who want to tell secrets.....
If you need to share and have no one tell your secrets, go to therapy....
