Kid had it coming and should applaud the dude that refrained from braking his neck. I am not sure how I would have handled this but for sure would have slapped him a few times just to make sure he gets it.

Given the mother's behaviour it's doubtful that the boy learned anything. It's the "Not My Johnny" type parenting that's the problem. I should know because my mother is this way with my younger half brother who's a perpetual man child. This kid can still turn it around. At 48 I consider my bother a lost cause.

Evidently the police came shortly thereafter and asked if the park manager wanted to press charges. he didn't. Instead the boy and the man apologized to each other and they went on their way.

Boy's mom then posted a ten second clip of only the man throwing the boy down on Facebook along with his contact information like name and address. the man and his family are now in danger as they've been threatened. Police have advised the man to post the whole clip for protection.

You didn't read the back story.

The police asked him him if he wanted to press charges. Which is important.

Assuming the charge would be against the parent, since the child was 10, I can only summarize that was the reason he did not.

By walking away, all the kid learns is how to continue to behave this way.

If I had been in the man's shoes, I probably would not have had so much restraint, and I for sure would have pressed charges. If the kid's mom is enough of a tool to only post the last little bit from the video on her FB, then she might be tool enough to try to pursue civil charges or a lawsuit later on. Having criminal charges against her would nip that in the bud.
