I don't give my dogs food scraps but recently I took the cooked chicken bones and blended them with water. I made sure it was very mushy and then poured it over momz, dads & the puppies food. They loved it and ate it all up.
BIG MISTAKE = One of the puppies got really sick over the weekend, he vomited, had diarrhea and blood in his stool. This was all happening during middle of the night. After the diarrhea it was mostly blood coming from his anus. First thing I thought it was parvo, a very contagious virus and often deadly for puppies. He wouldn't drink any water, he was lethargic. I gave him electrolytes and nursed him all night. In the morning he wakes up and is jumping around all healthy and happy.
So this got me all confused because all signs were pointing to parvo and the google vet in me was freaking out still. To top it off I was upset with all the nasty jokes the denigrates were posting here how my puppies are only worth a dollar and shit. I managed to stay calm and watched the puppies to make sure it wasn't parvo. Most likely if it was parvo all would get sick (one puppy went home with it's new owner and when I checked with them they said he was fine and this was before I gave them the ground up chicken bones).
Forward to today; of course I'm still worried even though his poop is fine and all the other puppies are good too, but I go check the vet and explain everything in detail.
Eating ground up chicken bones for puppies is like eating glass. I caused him the internal bleeding. LESSON LEARNED
