In a grueling day of cross-examination, Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion offered a series of denials to statements made earlier in a judicial conflict-of-interest inquiry by four key witnesses, about the extent of her involvement in a $14.4 million land deal.

Among other things, McCallion disputed testimony by former city manager David O’Brien hat she had asked him to intervene in a dispute between the OMERS pension fund, of which he was a member of the board, and her son’s company.

She has had her hands in the cookie jar for a long time, plus Mississauga has one of the high rates of property taxes but she is everyone's grandmother and they keep handing her the key to the city.

Hazel's strength of personality,energy and drive are something to truly behold. Despite being the nation's longest serving mayor she is also a mother and she loves her children very much with Peter her favorite. As a politician she knows how to stretch the lines and in this instance it is my belief that she wanted desperately to have the hotel and convention centre in place as part of her legacy in building up the city centre area. That Peter stood to make a small fortune in the process would likely not have been missed by her as this lady is no one's fool.
