Having discussions with friends and they tell me they get less respect if you have an accent.

This never crossed my mind but apparently it does.

Everyone speaks with an accent.............But those from the same area do not notice because they have the same accent.

It gets worse if you are a woman with an accent. These male chauvinists will try to bully you.

I'm from Nova Scotia and when I worked in offices around Ontario I would always get singled out or told to speak properly because of my accent. So I had to learn how to central Canadianize my accent. Now it takes a lot of whisky and a few other funny English accents to pull it out of me.

I'm told by some I have an accent, no matter, I love most accents, it makes one different.Not a huge fan of the Scottish accent, British and Spanish accents however always do it for me

I wonder if our heritage influences which accents we find pleasurable?

I have Scottish ancestry and the accent drives me crazy - in a good way.

it's very possible, but could be just different strokes for different folks, hope no one is offended by my comment, just being truthful about my preferences
