My girls got this for Christmas. My son set it up for them and they want me to play with them. Then they beat me to pieces cause I don't know what I'm doing. They won't show me what the button do or don't do etc.. They laugh their little Fannies off cause they are beating me. Help!!!

Anybody knows how the controller works. What A - B other letters, etc... do?

Thanks in advance.

From what I understand, you can program each button to do different things and it all depends on what game you're playing.

If you're used to playing games using a keyboard and mouse, don't even bother. I tried for days to get used to it and no fricken way.

One of my biggest issues with game controllers vs a mouse is that with a mouse, you move it, your character moves. You stop, it stops. With the mini joystick on the controller you move it to the left, and the character keeps moving until you allow the joystick to go back to the centre position.

I say give up: if you're over 25 you'll never beat em.....

I also hate it when you're playing with someone who is not only used to the controller, but is familiar with the game. The last time I tried head to head the asshole I was playing against had been playing it for months and knew exactly where the spawn/respawn points were. As soon as I spawned, bang he killed me. I said "gimme a fricken break until I figure out what...bam...dead again". I finally threw the controller at his head......

Lol, let a real geek answer this question.

Okay, for the xbox360 depending on which game and what type of game the button's can differ in action for a character/vehicle/plane.
If your asking about how to operate it not within the game, but within the console's home page it's quite easy.

Center Xbox button:
In console navigation screen's - This is your on/off/reset button. When held it will bring up a window that gives you these options.
In game - This key gives you the option to bring you out of the game and back to the navigation screen, or to shut off the console even when in a game, again by another popup window.

The small black joystick on the right (for right thumb to operate):
On console main screen's - this is what you use to navigate what you want to click, like a mouse... This idea is like the old mouse's you'd have on a laptop ages ago.
In game - This is usually the joystick you use to move around places, it also has the function of tapping the joystick, although once again, it depend's on which game you are playing to know what it does.

The small black joystick on the top left of the controller (typically controlled by your left thumb as well):
In game - In game's where you have a character, this typically control's the angle of your view. Its function is like our neck, to turn to the right, left, up, down. Used for aiming

Green A button:
On console main navigation screen's - This is your most used key, it is like our left click on a computer mouse/laptop mouse. It allows you to click whatever you want to navigate to.
In game - This is usually your weapon or main attack (punch) in fighting character games, in sports, this is typically your pass/shoot button.

Blue X button:
On console main navigation screen's - This play's the role your back button.

Blue X Button, Yellow Y button, Red B button, your trigger's, and left and right button above the trigger:
In game - These buttons can range from various things, depending on the game. ALSO every game will show you what they're for in their tutorial, and every game has a tutorial.

I think this is the general basic's of the controller that'll help navigate to get through to the rest of what you need to know.
As the xbox does come with a visual tutorial, not just he manual.

Hope this helped...!
Enjoy.

Whatever game your playing, navigate to the menu, and in those options you should be able to find a tutorial, or a on-screen manual of what the button's do what, and what combo's do what.

Impressive Jayda.... NOw by any chance do you know anything about modded xbox's ?? I'm thinking about it..

Jayda you are a lady I must see, wow you sound like a blast!

Not so much a blast, Monsieur le Chef.

A smoldering, simmering, sensual sweet treat, the essence of delicious dessert.

Should definitely be on your menu.

Lol, indeed!!

I'm actually widely known as the Geek SP - That doesn't look like one, (although I don't believe geek's have a look). LOL

Its all depending on what kind of gamer you are or intend to be/become, now day's no one is really into modded xbox's as you cannot go online with it.
The reason for this is back maybe 2 and a half year's ago, Microsoft got smarter, as they perfected and patched the flaw in their system that geek's like myself used to modify xbox's.
As soon as you try to go online with a modded xbox, your console get's BANNED from ever going online again, because if you install update's like everyone does/should/is needed..
They created an update that is capable of seeking out if your xbox has been modified.

Hence why I said depending on what kind of gamer you are/or plan to be; if you're just looking for a console to game alone or with friends at home, and do not intend to game competitively online, then sure it is the best and most cost-efficient system to get. Since you can download and burn game's onto specific DVD's with the -R, your not losing $69.99</> on each game purchase.

Although, in my honest opinion, as much as I love certain game's that are only on xbox such as Gears of War.
I believe out of the two best selling system's PS3 and XBOX360, your best investment would be the PS3.

Microsoft for some reason has made it so that people are paying more then they should be, this is something I've always disagreed with.
To go online on XBOX360, you need to pay for a Gold Membership or per month with a Gold Membership.
This makes absolutely no sense to me since you are already paying for the console, you pay for the game, you pay for your own internet to online game, and then on top of that!!
Microsoft wants to rip people off by paying for a "membership" to access YOUR OWN internet. LOL -- What kind of bull is that?

Anyway's PS3 give's you your money's worth and has more pro's then it does con's in comparison to the XBOX360.
Not only is the PS3 a gaming system and play's DVD's like the Xbox, but it also can play Blu-ray, instead of buying a blu-ray player for 200+.
Also, PS3 does not rip you off with the internet access, you don't need to pay extra to use your own internet, and you can also BROWSE the internet on your console as if you browsed on a computer - stream/watch movies online through your PS3!!

Thus, I will leave the decision up to you, and there is my insight's on the Modded XBOX.

LOL - Before the console banning started to happen, I had 3 modified xbox's in my apartment and hundred's of burnt games ROFL, it pissed me off sooooo bad when each console got banned since I do like competitive gaming, and I wound up donating them to children that don't need to go online. =P =D

Such a geek eh, lol.
