Ontario priest convicted of 1979 assault.

PEMBROKE, Ont. — A Roman Catholic priest has been found guilty of indecently assaulting a teenage boy in 1979.Monsignor Robert Borne, 63, was also found guilty of gross indecency, but acquitted of the same charges in relation to another alleged assault in 1981.Justice Julianne

Parfett said she found the alleged victim from the 1981 events to be an unreliable witness because of the number of contradictions and inconsistencies in his testimony. But she also said Borne was evasive in his own testimony.
On the charges Borne was convicted on, Parfett said the victim's evidence was consistent throughout, adding he was “scrupulously honest” while giving his testimony.Borne denied having non-consensual relations with either of the boys, who are now in their 40s.

He admitted to mutual groping between himself and a 16-year-old boy at a rectory in Griffith, Ont., located 150 km west of Ottawa, on a weekend when he was filling in for another priest. He told the court he did not have any intentions of coming onto the boy. He said the teenager began telling him about a recent sexual encounter with a girl at a party when he was drunk. The teenager told the priest he didn't mind having sex with men or women, Borne testified.

It was after the discussion that the groping occurred.Following the conviction, the Diocese of Pembroke issued a release expressing its sincere compassion to the individuals who brought forth the charges.“We recognize the anguish with which they are struggling,” the release said. “These charges are challenging for all involved in the process.

In respect to the decision rendered by the court, the Diocese of Pembroke continues to pledge pastoral concern to all involved in this matter.”
Bruce Pappin, spokesman for the diocese, confirmed Borne remains relieved of his duties within the church, which occurred when he was charged in 2009.

The matter has been referred to the Vatican for further investigation.
Borne will be sentenced April 10.

It's part of the reason I believe most Priests decide to go into the priest hood. I truly believe most of them are either homosexuals or pedophiles; I'm not saying the two are one in the same. Let me add before I get lambasted that I am aware that there are just as many heterosexual pedophiles roaming our world. The point I am trying to make is the fact most are ashamed growing up realizing their sexual preference and decide to go into the priest hood thinking they will be healed or at the very least live without sex in their lives. The problem is we as humans; especially males need to fulfill our sexual desires to some point without exploding.

I don't know if it's so much that they have a preponderance for pedophilia but maybe more so due to the total lack of a sexual outlet that they are so horned up anyone or anything will do.

This sort of is confirmed by the fact that no baptist ministers are, or very rarely are, discovered to have partaken in anything untoward. (because they are allowed to marry and have kids etc).

I tell you though, it's getting to the point where the authorities are going to have to step in and have all priests undergo psychological testing to see if they are even remotely susceptible to acting out in this manner.

I've had similar discussions with friends over your sharp observations. But we forget one important fact. The higher ups never did anything to stop their exploitation of the young children. The Pope, the Bishops they all knew what was going on.

Fuck don't get me going.

+100....and the vatican has written rules/laws to govern how the church handles situations like this.....and the cardinal rule? protect the priest.....

Like Tman said. 1000% on what you said. But you all forget that the Catholic people are still giving 10% of their income to the church.

Turning a blind eye is a must if you are catholic.

OK God, send me to hell....

I'm catholic and yes I have given 10% OVER the last 10 years. There is no set rule how much a catholic gives to his church. If you go on Sunday which is expected you throw a bit of loose change into the basket. Priests are human beings and not being able to marry is wrong in my opinion, it would solve many of the problems.

priests..clowns...I just DONT Trust them! For those people or institutions (eg. The Vatican) who covered up for these pedophiles (especially when evidences have proven that they did commit these horrible acts) deserve to be locked up as well....

It is widely known that the Catholic church is the wealthiest single entity by far. :shocking:

What's that line...

Its no wonder they "protect their own..."

Frankly... it disgusts me to no end! :banghead:
