Consumers can be targeted on large scale (like a shopping mall or arena or stadium) or on a more intimate scale. Which is likely how this worked, probably involving the "audience plants" we see highlighted at the beginning of the commercial. Just guessing here, but maybe by hitting the send button, the backstage director triggered the cellphones of the "plants" to broadcast text messages to all phones in close proximity, thereby confining the "broadcasting" to the theatre itself and not to a wider location.

Sure blame the phone but why not the car it moves too fast. Seriously though, it sends a big message with impact.
