Ending the Conversation?

Whether you're on the phone, on the net or in person, I believe we've all at some point in time wanted to end a conversation that was annoying, irritating , depressing (whatever).......and didn't quite know how to.
What do you say? Do you just abruptly say: " Look man, Ive got sh*t to do so, talk to you later!" OR Do you look for a nice opportunity to smoothly ease yourself out of the conversation without hurting the other person's feelings? How do you get the chatter to shut up or stop talking?

I fins say " hey , hate to stop you right there but I have something I have already committed to doing , let's pick this up another time " I have never had anyone say anything weird or mean in a response

It is very easy for me, I just say, I have to go now, it ends the conversation pretty quick.

The guy on the other end will think you were cut off or something...

"I'm going into a tunnel" sssshhhhhshshshshhshshsh "can't......out.....saying".....lol...

(the only time that is true is when the phone rings and you're having sex..."I can't talk, I about to go into a tunnel lol).

One thing that I positively HATE is when someone looks you up on chat, gets all into a subject, then out of the blue says "got to go, see you" whoosh, and they're gone. Kind of makes me feel like they just needed to vent and didn't care who was on the end or what we had to say.

The only times I've ever had to end a conversation were when I was scared or freaked out by what the person said, and so I've said "I'm so sorry I'm running out of minutes, call me back in 5." And then I ignore the subsequent calls or if the person is persistent enough, turn my phone off.
