Father kills himself on Facebook Live over daughter’s engagement

This is just more proof how some are so radicalized in their beliefs they are a danger to themselves and the people around them. He has single handily ruined the marriage because he felt slighted over something so trivial for most normal people.

Pathetic. Good riddance.

I'm not to trivialize suicide as a serious issue (because it is) but good god this is one of the shittiest reasons to commit suicide.

Suicide is a dark path. We have only scratched the surface on this particular case. No one will ever know all the details. For those that don't understand it, just think of it this way. It's kind of like the dark side of the Force. "Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny". Once you have seriously considered suicide as a way out, it will always be there in the back of your mind for whenever things get tough. Yes, it's crazy. And yes, it should be treated as a mental illness. And yes, if you have ever thought of it, seek help. Not necessarily in the form of a doctor. Sometimes having a friend, or connection with someone else is enough to bring home the fact that suicide isn't the answer.

You hit the nail on the head!
I have been directly and indirectly involved with this on several occasions in my life and still just wonder what would drive someone to this ultimate end.
It is a tragedy to happen and it is a tragedy for the family to deal with.
My heart goes out to anyone who has had to deal with this.

Wow. Great display of tolerance, understanding and empathy from the person who has been posting up a storm on here bemoaning the lack of tolerance, understanding and empathy from this community towards trans individuals.

I guess hypocrisy is the new normal.

Baz, the Voice and Dilligaf, all had great comments. In this case it was a truly selfish and hateful act, imo. The poor family....Religion and the beliefs instilled by some cultures are poisonous as this proves.

Probably related to mental health issues that many of us dont understand much.

I don't think in this case it was related to mental illness as much as it was the 'honor system' which is so prevalent in Islamic communities. Until the radical elements of that belief system can be dismantled, this type of tragedy will continue unfortunately.

I have to admit that I hate having this kind of discussions. Yes what the father did was wrong for using suicide as a manipulation tool to control who his daughter can marry but on the flip side suicide is an important issue to discuss about and it should not be trivialized.

So if I take either stance I will sound like an asshole, either I argue that a) what the father did was wrong and if he decided to die then it was his choice, or b) the father's death was an unfortunate loss for the family and his daughter should have listened to him.
