Fathers day

Jay's game or any other professional team playing that day. So easy to please.

^ Yes a ticket to a ball or a hockey game, always brought a smile to my dads face.

I buy the steaks, hand him and apron and he cooks his own bbq. He loves doing that.

The old lad passed this year, but the day is always jam-packed with my own kids, and my close friends and their kids at one of our places to swim, grill, play some golf during the day and poker after the kids have all headed off to bed or home for the evening. Then we fathers all laugh about how we somehow made it through yet another year as fathers.

I only spoke to the guy on average, once a year after I was 21, and it wasn't on Father's Day. He made himself redundant.

^@Flash, sorry to hear that. There are many parents who failed at parenting, not everyone was cut out to be a parent, even though biology allowed them to become one. Forgiveness though does a heart good and frees one to live a happier life. Some people know no better, and can only do as they've been taught. Some simply don't have the tools or abilities or any mentors to help them change.

Btw those with fur babies are parents too, lol:)

I have to disagree with you on this one, Cristy. I never forgive anyone who is unwilling to first admit that they did anything wrong.

Did Michael Corleone forgive Solozzo, Fabrizio, Tessio, Carlo, Fredo, or Hyman Roth, to name but a few? Of course not! They would just have tried the same things again, when enough time had passed.

People make choices, and they live with the consequences of their actions. If time were static, things might be different, but it's not.

W*riting someone off gives oneself a clean slate, rather than giving that to someone else. Anyone who treats someone poorly will continue to do so, as long as the other person allows them to. They won't change, they'll just run out of people they know who will put up with that. Then they become Internet trolls.

This is one area where I agree with the Muslims, and why I reject Christianity. Look into "The eight steps of atonement".

(I had to add an asterisk, or the bold word turned into an emogie, against my will. That probably only happens if it's the first word of a sentence).

I agree with flash on this one my old man was a selfish abusive ass hole. I stopped talking to him over 20 years ago. There's no forgiving someone like that who has such a huge effect on a kids life.

I had a reasonable father... no big hangups about him... he worked hard, gave us a comfy living... yelled too much about politics, but otherwise was ok... but he didn't put much stock in father's day... noted, correctly, that it was just an invented day to make people buy stuff... so I've never paid much attention to it...

My dad lives about 300 miles from me but I make an effort to give him and his SO a phone call each week.

Fathers day will be no exception.

He loves to talk about his favourite sports teams which not by coincidence also happen to mine.

I grew up without a father. Can't miss what you never had though....so no big deal to me.

As a father now, I'd be impressed if the wife and son just noticed that it was father's day. Hell, they forgot my birthday until I'd been at work for a couple of hours. As far as I'm concerned, it would have been less insulting if they had just admitted they forgot instead of sending some text with picture of them as some kind token gift.

No wonder I have issues with depression.

That sucks, dude! Total lack of respect! Have you tried sitting down w your wife in a quiet moment to share your feelings, and let her know how terribly these personal slights affect you!?

I suggest he takes her to a nice restaurant and talk about it over wine.

So I just keep trying to plug away at life

This is all any of us can really do, but the fact you've sought out and are actively participating in therapy sessions with medical professionals who are in a strong position to help and advise you is HUGE! Keep it up! They can definitely help you sort out your thoughts in an unbiased manner and decide what's real vs. perceived in the world around you!

Won't offer you any other advice than to say keep going in the communication of your thoughts and feelings with people you trust. Keeping everything bottled up inside will only make things worse.

Good luck! We are ALL sending positive energy your way, dude!

We had a quick lunch. He rushed us to get back to the Jays' game :biggrin2:

It was an awesome day! Filled with lots of fun, friends, family, laughs, goofy gifts, good food, and some very strong emotional moments. A day for the ages. Hope it was the same for all the other fathers out there too! :good:
