Seeing as we have a nice variety of individuals and outlooks here, why not ask...

What do you do when you're feeling completely drained/spent.

May I over did it yesterday, but I'm feeling physically and mentally exhausted. I don't know about emotionally, they get locked in the closet. Even contemplating using my door prize has proven stressful.

I see no real R&R in the near future. I do get two weeks of vacation, but have no plans for using them. And I haven't had a weekend off since around Febuary, and again see no plans for those either.

So I'm just trolling for ideas on how others recharge their batteries.

My one thought was to take Sunday off, and cruise downtown TO, hitting various book and comic shops. (I used to be a real comic/gamer nerd, but I've quit gaming, and just follow to series)

Can you fill us in a bit more Dave. how did you over do it yesterday, drinking/working?. You have no weekends off but do you have 2 days off a week?. You feel drained/spent because of work or your personal problems.

Taking the Sunday off is a great idea, doing something you enjoy eases the mind and recharges your batteries.

Going to visit nieces* and nephews* always brightens my day.

It helps that I get to mooch a meal or two as well. :)

*Most of them, there are a couple of asshats in the group.

Damn Dave do fill us in on more info as I and some of my buddies have been in your shoes.

Grab a bike and bicycle along the lake-shore. The sights and exercise will perk up your spirits.

A change is as good as a rest.
Get outside of yourself for a bit and do some volunteer work for the community. Even just a few hours a month, you'll get to meet some different people and take your mind off whatever is stressing you out.

Dude, maybe you need to book a nice holiday. I was reading Olayda's cross country adventure, might be the perfect thing for you to try.

Under normal circumstances I would say, wake up, move your ass, or piss off home. This heat is getting to all of us brother. Wait till its over then give it another go. :great:

Well yesterday, I was feeling energetic and up for a challenge of my running endurance. So I hit the Vitoria Rail Trail out of Lindsay out to Post Rd. Followed Post Rd over to the Trans Canada Rail trail, but only made it back to Tracy Hill Rd before I had to resort to running and walking. By the time I got back home, I couldn't even run a half a block. IIRC that would be about 15k to Tracy Hill, and 20k all together.

Once I got home, I showered, ate a big bowl of oatmeal/bran and hit the rec centre for my upper body work out. Came home ate lunch, and zonked out on the couch for about 2 hours, before going to work for 4 hours, coming home and going to bed....Only to go in for 6:30am.

So yeah, I think I over did things yesterday, physically.

And I think all the self help books I've been consuming have worn me down too. Especially Reinventing Your Life, I found it intellectually troubling.

As for getting out and exercising...Today is supposed to be a rest day....So I went out and cut several of the neighbor's lawns.

Bud he has to take some time off from reading books that don't suit him. Long story will expand later.

As dumb as it sounds, that too has been a cause of stress for me as well. Not only "when will I use it" and "with whom"....But something just hasn't been feeling right about it. I can't put my finger on what it is, but something is just not sitting right with me about it...Well I guess hobbying in general.

Don't feel pressure to use the prize, I'm sure it's good for a while. Hobbying might not be in the picture right now and that's okay.
It's a good idea to take it easy with exercising on hot humid days too.

Dude you are really over thinking things. Anyone that exercised the amount you did on the previous day would feel tired, add in the hot weather, what do you expect?

Use your freebie and pretend it's a hot lady you picked up at the bar. You will feel like a million bucks afterwards.

Make sure it's a well reviewed lady so you don't have a hit and miss!

Dave,

Even though you don't think you need it, your body is telling you to take a vacation.

Not sure why you are working every day of the week but I believe that you can't do that as an employee due to the overtime laws that are in place now. Anyways, you need to take some time to yourself to clear your head. Do what you want to do but the key is a change of scenery.

I also thought that the prize would be a good way to help you unwind. If its just adding more stress then that is counter productive. Have you considered asking Toronto Passions if one of their ladies would consider making it a out on the town type session, where you go out to dinner and just talk or something that you would like to do. Not sure of the ladies on their roster but there are some guys here who could help you pick one that would suit. I'm sure there would be an escort that would do that for you. BTW the name escort is selected because the ladies are not only there for sex, some of us need to unwind and find them a great outlet to talk to a friendly ear without any judgement coming back on you. Its a thought anyways.

Aw shit, I thought this thread was going to be some misplaced review where you're telling us you found the worlds best BBBJ artist.

But while Brad is here . . . Forget all the psycho-babble about your body needing a vacation. Your skeletal muscles do not have a brain and feel no psychological 'stress' from your life. People mean well but the solution is simple: EAT. Specifically, if you engage in an endurance activity, feeling tired is normal. But you say 'drained', meaning you feel its not just tiredness. Trust your gut on this one. There's a thing called muscle glycogen, with glycogen being the form the carbohydrate glucose is stored in your body. Do some exercise and your body eats up the glycogen from the skeletal muscles (responsible for movement) pretty quickly. If your body eats up too much of the muscle glycogen, it needs energy from somewhere, so your body eats into your cell structures and this effects your immune system. Presto, ya feel drained. I suspect you're not eating properly before or after endurance exercise, or maybe both. Before, you need high-carbohydrate food or drink - just add calories, basically, and don't worry, lots of endurance stuff will burn it right off and leave your body with lots of useable, good sugars. Are you eating anything like nuts, apples, dried fruits? After, proteins never hurt. The point is that feeling drained is an eating thing, or more specifically, not matching your eating habits to your exercise habits. Sleep doesn't hurt either. So moral of story is go eat, dude, then go find some SP to REALLY drain you!

Dave, you're going to hard in the heat. What you're doing is the equivalent of three a days football practises, which aren't used any longer. Your endorphins are great now and metabolism is too. However, over exercising in really hot weather will cause heat stroke and that can be life threatening. Alternate some of your routines. Go into TO, walk along the lakeshore, take a change of clothes and go play with a lady. Take a book with you to the park and read for awhile. Got to the ROM, Zoo, Casa Loma, a Jays or Argos game.

Dave, do all of the above, but the key factor in all of the suggestions is REST!! Give your mind a rest. You seem like a very intelligent guy and you looked great at the party.

I lead a pretty hectic life too and there isn't time enough in the day it seems for my hobbies, other than this hobby. But I take time to ride my bike (both motorcycle and bicycle), play my music, go out with my friends, sit and read a book, my TV rarely goes on and it kills me bcs I purchased a new 52" at Xmas and it doesn't even have the 100 hrs of break in time yet LOL.

Did you go to Comicon North? ( I think that's what its called), my friend went there and she had a blast, this is her second year and she made all her own costumes. What I'm getting at is that that's what you're in to (it seems) so you should embrace it again and take time out for yourself and enjoy!

BTW....take advantage of your freebie and have a good time; it could be the kick that triggers the skip in your walk.

There are a few etiologies for feeling "drained"...or perhaps fatique, basically grouped and not mutually exclusive to these 2 categories.

1) Physical - overstraining, nutrition, unhealthy/sedentary lifestyle medical ( vascular, infectious, idiopathic, endocrine, autoimmune, metabolic disorders, musculo-skeletal pathology etc.)
2) Emotional/psychological - depression, anxiety disorder, chronic fatigue syndrome, sleep disorders, life stresses, fibromyalgia

Fatique accounts for about 15% of office visits and peaks in ages 20-40 affecting women 3 t0 4x more than men. 50% have an associated psychological complaint/problems especially if <6months duration

I recommend seeing your doctor to assess these aspects/get his opinion first.

Then party hard dave!
Exercise right!
Kick or Kiss (..sp prize..lol) some Ass!, what ever you enjoy.
Life is great!
Do it!!

PS. Feel free to ask me any questions anytime about anything.

If I were to take GDL's advice and go on more of a date, I think I'd sooner see a lady I know would stimulate me mentally...Like Gen, Rebecca or Nikki.

Though I am liking the idea of taking the Sunday off and using to wander around downtown Toronto...Hobbying optional. :p. But other that the Eatons Centre and the afore mentioned stores, I really don't know where anything is...And I'd have stay out of Steve's, or there's a good chance I'd come away with an Iceman.
