PUNTA GORDA ISLES, Fla. -- A fishing trip turned into a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a Florida teenager when a stingray he caught started giving birth. He caught the experience on tape.
Every fisherman loves a good "fish tale," but Calvin Conger got much more than he bargained for.
"It's having a baby!" said his girlfriend, Hannah Harris.
He was fishing for sharks near Ponce de Leon Park, when he reeled in a stingray.
"We were kind of bummed about it," Conger said. "We got it on the boat. We put it on the filleting table, because we were gonna use it for bait. We got a closer look at it, and there was another stinger hanging out."
"Gross," Harris says in the video.
Conger's dad pushes a baby stingray out.
"It like flopped right out. It was weird," Harris said.
Moments later...
"Oh, my god! It's having another one," Harris says in the video.
By giving new life, the mother stingray managed to spare her own.
"We let it go," Conger said. "We wouldn't kill the mom."
"It makes me want to go fishing more," Harris said. "You just see the weirdest things, and it was an awesome moment."
