Radar traps, another pet peeve of mine. They hide in fishing holes where the speed drops from 80km to 50km. They are all over King side road, hwy 27 and some of these roads where in my opinion the speed posted is ridiculous.

I happily flash my lights warning all motorists about the speed traps. It's nice to see most drivers wave back a thank you. If the police are going to try and boost their quotas unfairly and ticket people who are over a nominal amount I say we drivers have to stick together from this blatant cash grab.

NO I DIDN'T get a ticket today but I know the way the Police are enforcing ticketing it won't be long before I do.:grrrrrr:

I'm done venting, thank you for listening/reading.

police give tickets out when they are not busy with more important calls and the police ticketers are usually rookies

They have to meet their quota then they can go home for dinner and beers.

Another sham is fighting the ticket. You can no longer mail it in for a court date. You must go to the court to request a court date. Then appear in court where the prosecution will basically tell you take a plea for a lesser charge or I'm going for the throat, maybe not in those words but to that affect.

I once sat in watching how all the paralegals were chummy chummy with the prosecutor plea bargaining all their cases. The problem is the charge is dropped down but the conviction still goes against you insurance wise.

It's one big cash grabbing scam!!

I believe you are wrong there. They used to give me the option to pay for the ticket minus the points and bear with it. Has the system changed?.

Yeah insertion, flashing your lights or "warning other drivers" is a ticketable offence......not sure what the charge is but one would assume it isn't cheap.....

btw: I totally support and agree to putting radar traps around schools etc......

+ 1 a no brainer there.

yeah if only the cops would be on board. There's a big steep hill on the way to my place from town and the OPP sits there all the time just waiting for some unsuspecting driver. If you want to maintain the speed limit you HAVE to ride the brakes all the way down otherwise you'll get up over 80 kph in seconds.....

Now about a kilometer before that there IS a junior public school with the speed limit reduced to 40 kph during school hours. I've seen them there occasionally but I always slow down anyways......but they're more often at the big hill.....

Actually flashing the lights is not a ticket able offence. It was dismissed recently in superior court. Keeping your high beams on in the city is but flashing is not. Some Officers get annoyed and pull you over but they can't win in court if they do ticket you.

yet it is such a hassle when you get a ticket as you have to fight it.

Hmmm that's interesting....but did they simply dismiss the case, or dismiss the law? If they didn't dismiss the law itself, the cops can ticket you all they want and it is up to you to fight it (and you'd only win if you got to the same superior court judge. I don't believe all judges rule the same if one judge overturns a ticket).

Here are some interesting reads regarding flashing your lights to warn on coming motorists about a speed trap.

There is no specific law and when the officer tickets you he is ticketing you for high beam usage, which flashing clearly is not. The speed traps is to enforce drivers to slow down not collect money right? Well flashing your head lights achieves the same result: drivers slow down without the added aggravation of fighting a ticket, losing a days pay to do so, having higher insurance rates etc....

I
'm with Insertion on this one unless near a school zone or if I see someone barrelling down driving erratically then I would not flash.

Well, thanks for the clarification zorro...but according to the second post, there are a few laws whereby the officer can charge you although not specifically for "warning" other drivers.

But those articles about highbeam use brings up something that bugs me every morning when I drive to the job site: idiots using their highbeams at dawn. I mean, it is light enough so I can see 3 kms down the road yet there are these wingnuts that are driving around with their highbeams on. Sure, they kick them off, but not until I've gotten a good eyeful of the brights. Seriously, the only time I use them is when I'm pulling into the access road to my house. I don't use them on the RR's because frankly, they don't really help. The roads are so curvy that all they do is nicely illuminate the trees in front of me. I much prefer the low beams that illuminate the shoulders and still let me see far enough down the road to drive safely.

Even when driving up hwy 11 at midnight I don't use them, again, because I find all they do is illuminate everything but the road in front of me.

I can't stand high beam users, especially if they are driving trucks. It's a killer in the rear view mirror.

As for the tickets, I've flashed others and have been flashed. I agree the police have become an extension of the tax man. I wouldn't care so much if the government reined in the insurance companies from raising the rates over minor traffic violations.

About rear view mirrors, my truck has auto sensing so they darken at night/dusk but they aren't dark enough IMO. I still get glare in the eyeballs even if the other car has on the low beams......
