and has initiated the process to privatize garbage pick up from Yonge St. to Etobicoke.

I can't believe it a politician that is attempting to keep his promises, I'm astonished and proud of the big guy!!:great::great:

"....said CUPE Local 416 President Mark Ferguson, who represents the city’s outside workers. “We know he’s just trying to whip up public anger at our members.

Like a 40 day strike left Torontonians with a happy warm fuzzy feeling for union members.

Some Councillors are claiming it will same over 8 million dollars. If it's true then good for them.

They are also suppose to vote on a pay freeze for the Councillors themselves. Curious to see if they put the money where their mouth is and lead by example.

Actually, some did under the previous regime......some also voted to freeze their expense accounts as well.

I forget the numbers but under private services etobicoke and Mississauga saved millions........it's called free market society, when you have competitors bidding on a job, you choose the right one. Unions are a monopoly (which last I heard was illegal in Canada).

He might have a hard time doing this though, some bonehead mayor from days gone past put a clause in the union contract that any outside bidder/contractor had to pay union rates.....

Let's hope he can keep Eglinton from becoming another St. Clair mess.
You can thank comrade Miller for that St. Clair mess.
I heard shops lost something like 40% revenue because of Miller's war on cars

^^ and many just closed up shop.

I think Miller had the idea that he could force people to take "the better way" by limiting the availability of passable routes. Unfortunately for the shop owners, drivers just went to places that had readily available parking and easy routes to and from.

Talk about a Moron......

I heard that during construction they lost a hell of a lot more than 40%. I heard or read that 40% went out of business.....

Personally I have no problem with closing roads to make "street malls" like Denver, Miami and other places. Just don't BS about it. Don't make it frustrating and virtually impossible for cars to get through, just close the fricken road. Now St Clair is a major east west artery through the city and any US city that did this, it was a side street or non-essential road (or there were viable alternatives). Just look at the mayhem closing the danforth does?

Like bike lanes: ok, I appreciate the effort but to cut the capacity of a road in half, for the occasional bike rider that is only used for about 5 months out of 12? That's fricken 100% assinine.

I tell you, the BS about cars in Toronto was one of the reasons I got the hell outta dodge......

Miller was a dick, a pompous know it all dick. So far Ford has been a refreshing change mainly because he is trying to keep his promises. I hope he weighs the true costs of some of his promises and makes common sense decisions on implementation, plus I hope he does not come in with user fees which too me are the same as higher taxes.

Was Miller gay or bisexual?? Cause he always kinda came across to me as one.
(I know he was married but that means very little)

Esco, maybe you should ask all the Torontonians he fucked in the ass if if felt like he was enjoying himself.

Doug Ford denies 'get a job' quip during protest

https://www.thestar.com/news/article/936252--get-a-job-doug-ford-tells-ocap-protester?bn=1

After Ontario Coalition Against Poverty protesters stormed a meeting of city council’s budget committee Thursday morning, committee vice-chair Doug Ford told a confrontational protester to “get a job” — echoing comments his brother, Mayor Rob Ford, made to OCAP protesters during similar City Hall demonstrations in 2002 and 2005.

The protesters were yelling out "eat shit and die" , "burn you and your rich bastard friends" so I don't think "get a job" is too bad even if he did say it.

Rob is suffering kidney stones, now that hurts!!

Why should they get a job, part of extreme socialist agenda is they get to spend other peoples money.

Great work if you can get it
